BRIEFING NETWORK RAIL ENGINEERING WORKS – BARNSLEY AND ROTHERHAM Network Rail is working over weekends in August to improve South Yorkshire’s rail network. It is part of their Railway Upgrade Plan to provide more reliable journeys for passengers and to prepare for Tram Train. BARNSLEY SERVICES Network Rail will replace the track at Barnsley station and over Jumble Lane level crossing (Kendray St) between 19 – 22 August. Trains will not call at Barnsley on 20 – 21 August while engineering work takes place. The following trains will be affected: Date Operator Route (between) Bus replacement (between) 20 – 21 Northern Sheffield - Leeds via Sheffield – Wakefield Kirkgate August Barnsley Sheffield - Huddersfield Sheffield – Penistone Leeds – Nottingham* Sheffield – Meadowhall – Barnsley – Wakefield Kirkgate *services will run to Wakefield Kirkgate then divert via Wakefield Westgate and Moorthorpe ROAD CLOSURE AND BARNSLEY INTERCHANGE Jumble Lane (Kendray St) will be closed overnight 11pm - 7am from Friday 19 August to Monday 22 August while work is carried out on the level crossing. There will be traffic diversions for road users. Pedestrians will be diverted through Barnsley Interchange via the footbridge to the railway station. Extra staff will be on hand to help. ROTHERHAM CENTRAL SERVICES Network Rail is working on Rotherham’s railway to prepare for Tram Train. Services will not call at Rotherham Central during the engineering work. EVENTS Passengers travelling in or out of South Yorkshire by train to football matches during the engineering work are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.
