Presentation | Berlin, 6 February 2020 THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PORT NETWORK AUTHORITY • Following the Legislative Decree n. 169, 4th August 2016, the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority was set up, including the ports of Livorno, Piombino, Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Cavo and Capraia Island • North Tyrrhenian Port Network accounts for over 14% of Italian Port traffic (Ro-Ro, Containers and General Cargo) and holds the national record for ro-ro traffic and number of commercial vehicles handled • Leading node not only for ro-ro traffic but also forest products and new cars • The most important port network in Italy for traffic handled as well as being the natural logistics node for Tuscany PORT NETWORK AUTHORITY OF THE NORTH TYRRHENIAN SEA IN THE ITALIAN AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT . North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Network – Livorno, Piombino, Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Cavo and Capraia Island: one of the largest systems of Italian ports for the total traffic handled with over 42 million tonnes of goods and 9 million passengers every year . Port of Livorno and the “A. Vespucci” Freight Village: the network’s most important nodes, well connected with the secondary nodes of the network and are part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor . Port of Piombino, Pisa Airport, Florence Airport and the freight village of Prato: on direct road and rail links, connected to the ScanMed Corridor, with a high capacity for penetration into the markets of Central and North Europe. THE PORT OF LIVORNO AT THE CENTER OF THE NORTH TYRRHENIAN SEA The port boasts high tech systems and equipment, handling over 30 million tonnes of goods and more 3 million passengers (of whom 800 thousand are cruise passengers) every year THE PORT OF LIVORNO . Livorno looks out onto the Tyrrhenian Sea, on the west coast of Italy (43° 33’ North and 10° 18’ East) . Its geographical location at the centre of the western Mediterranean gives it great MAP LEGEND strategic value CONTAINER . The port currently covers an area of over RO-RO 2.5 million sqm: about 90 berths, 21 km of GENERAL CARGO piers and a draught of up to 13 m CHEMICAL COMPARTMENT AND PETROLEUM . Spring high tides are 0.46 m and neap tides SILOS CEREALS 0.34 m FERRIES AND CRUISES PROFESSIONAL FISHING . Total length of piers: 21,000 metres LEISURE PORT . 2,300 metres of piers for container traffic SHIPBUILDING . 2,000 metres of piers for RO-RO traffic PORTA A MARE (Door of the sea) THE TRAFFICS A MULTIPORPOSE PORT SYSTEM . Forest products - As the main port for forestry products, mainly used in the Tuscan and national paper mills, Livorno handles 1.5 million tonnes of this cargo in break-bulk alone (pulp, kraft paper in rolls and timber) . New cars - Over 600,000 new vehicles every year, 80% of which are discharged and parked in these storage areas and in different locations in and around the port confines . Motorways of the Sea | Ro-ro | Ro-Pax - Over 500,000 vehicles, with and without drivers. Direct routes with several daily departures for Sardinia (Olbia, Golfo Aranci and Cagliari), Corsica (Bastia), Tunisia and Morocco, Spain, Sicily and Capraia Island . General cargo - Warehouse space and modern mechanical equipment combined with expert personnel for the loading and unloading of a huge rage of goods . Solid and liquid bulk - Over 700,000 tonnes of solid bulk cargo handled every year (cereals, minerals, sand and clay, manure and fertilisers) – Over 9 million tonnes of liquid bulk. Important port for petroleum products . Passenger traffic - a major hub in the national and international passenger traffic scene. Ferries going the islands of Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, Elba and Capraia Island - Transit point for the leading cruise lines of the world THE TRAFFICS CONTAINERS . TDT (Terminal Darsena Toscana): the port’s most important container terminal, handles over 75% of all containers coming through Livorno: . Surface of over 400,000 sqm, 1.5 km of wharfs, a rail terminal, refer stands, P.I.F. and visitor areas, lighthouse towers, 8 of the latest generation portainers, 14 transtainers and a large array of lifting equipment . Containers are also handled in other areas of the port: Terminal Lorenzini: . About 90,000 sqm of storage area, electrical sockets, wheeled cranes and lifting equipment, a press for decommissioned containers, P.I.F. and visitor areas . Other areas where TEUs are handled, one such being the Terminal Porto Commerciale THE TRAFFICS FOODSTUFF Livorno: temperature controlled warehouses and numerous systems with electrical sockets for refrigerated goods Livorno Reefer Terminal: a large modern 11,000 sqm warehouse with the latest generation facilities. Vespucci” and “Il Faldo” car park play a fundamental role in freeing up the port area from congestion and have huge potential as a perfectly placed logistics hub for Italian and International markets THE ‘’A. VESPUCCI’’ FREIGHT VILLAGE Means of communication: . Pisa-Livorno Railway . Firenze-Pisa-Livorno Highway (SGC Fi-Pi-Li) . A12 Motorway . Variante Aurelia (Road) . Via Aurelia (Road) LIVORNO LOOKING TO THE FUTURE: THE EUROPE PLATFORM . Large areas and longer piers for container B traffic (first phase: A) A . Infrastructures dedicated to the Motorways of the Sea and other traffic will be built in the second phase (phase: B) . 3 km of new piers . 2 large new terminals . 2 million square metres . Draught of 18 m . A new channel capable of accommodating latest generation super ships . Investment of about 1billion Euro . Once completed, Livorno will be able to offer large spaces and cutting edge structures for new and existing cargos . Work in currently in hand to build a microtunnel under the North entrance canal, THE MICROTUNNEL PROJECT that will contain the ENI pipes. TO ENLARGE THE ENTRANCE CHANNEL . The North entrance of the port will be enlarged (120 m) and deepened (-13 m) in order to allow mega ships to access the commercial port. Many thanks for your attention.
