The purpose is to identify WV businesses as well as promote the use of West Virginia Forest Products in local, regional, national, and international markets. The companies in this directory represent both the primary and secondary forest product industries in West Virginia and produce a multitude of products including: green lumber, kiln dried lumber, rustic rail fence, flooring, moulding/millwork, dimension parts, crossties/timbers/wood mats, pallets/ boxes/crates, engineered building products, cabinets, furniture, export and domestic sawlogs and veneer logs, log homes, veneer, charcoal, by- products, portable mill/custom sawing, custom drying, custom treating, mulch, wood pellets, and firewood. In this edition, following the preface, are two new features. First, maps are now provided that provide the location and name of all the green lumber producers (sawmills) and kiln dried lumber producers in the state. Following the map section, there is an alphabetical listing of companies, with available phone, fax, email, website information, and county location. On pages 13-21, we have produced a table of producers by county that lists each company and what range of products they manufacture. The table listing has been rotated to orient with the text, and the heading and column shading is color coordinated with the table category groupings in the index. These features should allow readers to locate a company directly, determine its location (county), identify it on the provided maps, and obtain a detailed listing of the company and all products manufactured by that company. The products are arranged in three categories: commercial products, consumer products, and other products. Commercial products are generally produced in large quantities and sold in bulk to other companies for further processing to make other products or sold at the retail level. These products are shipped to regional, national, and international markets by truck, rail, or containers via ports throughout the United States. Consumer products are items made with the individual customer in mind. Many of these companies are small businesses that offer a base product, but can customize the product built on the specifications of the consumer. These companies depend on direct communications with the consumer through local marketing efforts, phone calls, emails, or visits to the manufacturer’s location. These products are typically sold to the local and regional markets, however many companies have established customers on the national level. Other products are categories that do not fit well in the Commercial or Consumer groupings. These are companies with log or lumber yards, that buy logs or pulpwood, perform preservative treating, export logs, or produce and sell firewood.
