Reflections on Teamwork, Resiliency, and Leadership: A Public Discussion with a Recipient of the Medal of Honor A recipient of the Medal of Honor, Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry, will discuss his experiences and reflect on the meaning of principled leadership in a public forum at The Citadel’s McAlister Field House at 7:00 pm on October 22. All members of the community are invited to attend. Petry was decorated for his selfless actions in defense of his comrades in an engagement with Taliban forces in Paktia Province, Afghanistan on May 26, 2008. (http://www.army.mil/medalofhonor/petry/) He is the second living recipient of the Medal since the Vietnam Conflict. His actions under fire and subsequent work with his fellow wounded warriors have been profiled in numerous publications. The discussion on October 22 will be moderated by Colonel Joseph Trez, U.S. Army (Retired), a combat veteran of the Vietnam conflict who now serves as executive director of The Citadel’s Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics. “This rare evening,” said Bo Moore, Dean of Humanities & Social Sciences, “provides an extraordinary opportunity not only to learn more about the current generation of American soldiers but also the enduring qualities of resiliency and teamwork that have been central to principled and effective leadership across the different generations of the American experience.” SFC Petry’s visit to The Citadel is the result of a partnership between the military college and the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
