Parks 2020 Vision CIP Progress Report Service Zone 1 2020 Designation: Central City/Northwest Subarea Acquire Land and Develop Parks • Acres acquired: 2.99 Acres of Neighborhood/Community park property • River District has 2 developed parks, Jamison Square and Tanner Springs (1.86 Acres combined) • Forest Heights Park Developed (2.93 Acres) • The renovation of O’Bryant is in the planning stages • Park planning projects are coordinated with River Renaissance • Waterfront Park master plan is complete • Concept design plans for parks and greenway in North Macadam have been developed Protect and Improve Natural Resources • Acquired 60.07 additional acres in Forest Park • Forest Park: - Natural Area vegetation Inventory was completed - PSU Inventory of Culverts was completed - Culvert repairs were completed to comply with Salmon Safe conditions of certification along Balch Creek - Removed transient camps, holly and ivy along one mile long Ridge Trail - Continued volunteer efforts to remove invasive species and plant natives - Obtained FEMA grant funding for preparation of wildfire modeling plan and projects • Removed 40,000 sq ft of ivy from the banks of Willamette below the Riverplace promenade and replaced with a mixture of native and ornamental vegetation • Pittock mansion: Replanted native shrubs and small trees in view corridor area of grounds • Hoyt Arboretum: Removed invasives and replanted natives in riparian area below Bray Lane January 2006 – Portland Parks & Recreation 1 2020 Progress Report – Zone 1 Protect and Improve Urban Forest • Maintained tree liaisons for community education in neighborhoods: Forest Heights Forest Park Goose Holow Linnton Northwest St. Johns Sylvan Highlands Willamette Heights Expand and Develop Recreation Facilities and Programs Classroom and multi-purpose space has been enhanced at Hillside CC Develop Park Access, Trails and Connections • Constructed 1 mile long Ridge Trail connecting Firelane seven with Wildwood Trail, Leif Erikson and St. Johns Bridge, makes 40-Mile Loop connection to St Johns through coordination with St. Johns Bridge renovation by ODOT • Lower Macleay Trail was awarded National Recreational Trail status, improving eligibility for funds • Partnership with PUMP (Portland United Mountain Peddlers) to improve Firelane 5 for mountain biking • Design review and easement negotiations for Riverscape development at former Port Terminal 1 will provide approximately 2400 linear feet of new Willamette Greenway Trail • Holman Bldg water sport center and dock south of Hawthorne Bridge (by PDC) • Participation in River Renaissance, Strategy and Plan; Linnton Plan • Hwy 26 bike path (by ODOT) connects to Marquam Trail January 2006 – Portland Parks & Recreation 2 2020 Progress Report – Zone 1 Park Sites to be Developed and Renovated • Develop Three New Parks: Forest Heights Park (2.93 Acres), Jamison Square (0.94 Acres) and Tanner Springs (0.92 Acres); consultants selected for new plaza at South Park Block Five • Redevelop Existing Park (1) O’Bryant consultant selected • Extensive Renovation (1) • Basic Renovation (8): Washington Park renovations completed • Repairs (8): Ira Keller Fountain Habitat Park and Natural Areas RM Plan Extensive Rehabilitation Basic Rehabilitation Repairs January 2006 – Portland Parks & Recreation 3.
