PHYSICAL INFORMATION SAN MIGUEL THEN AND NOW Barangay SAN MIGUEL is one of the nine barangays within the Poblacion Area of Nabua, Camarines Sur, with an area of 47 hectares and 6,427 square meters with a population of 3,850 and 325 households. There are three (3) Zones which are all complemented with concrete pavement road. It is approximately 25 meters to the Poblacion area and 30 kilometers to the Provincial Capitol of the Province of Camarines Sur. Its main source of livelihood is agriculture professionals and labor expert. The Barangay Chapel is along the Maharlika Highway and the Barangay Hall is constructed in the Barangay Recreation Area donated by the Ex-Mayor Hilario B. Regalado. The Nabua National High School (NNHS) and the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) are within its jurisdiction, likewise with government offices, re: Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Circuit Trial Court and the Office of the Senior Citizen. There are five (5) free flows potable water within the three zones wherein the barangay residents get their drinking water and over other Barangays get their drinking water. The Barangay Hall is sometimes used as the Barangay Evacuation Center during calamities and other disasters that arise. One of the identified problems is the disposal of garbage considering that our barangay is already populated and dependent upon the collection of garbage truck of the municipality. Other barangay facilities will be realized after the Budget Year. THE MOBILE GOAL BARANGAY IMPROVEMENT THROUGH PEOPLE. 4 Republic of the Philippines Province of Camarines Sur Municipality of Nabua BARANGAY SAN MIGUEL xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx HISTORY OF BARANGAY SAN MIGUEL Before the expedition and discovery by Ferdinand Magellan in the Philippines in 1521, there was no barangay. What existed in San Miguel, Nabua, Camarines Sur was a virgin forest. Accordingly, there were three (3) house existing by the vicinity of San Miguel Quadrangle, name, Regalado, Jornales and Rull. As time goes by, people from other places migrated to this barangay because of strong earthquake that occurred. After the Spanish Occupation, Barangay San Miguel, had about seventy (70) families and grew bigger during the American Occupation wherein a bridge was constructed interconnecting Nabua to Bato and other municipalities of Camarines Sur and Albay. This was constructed by the Americans wherein an American soldier died. Subsequently, during the Japanese Occupation, the same bridge was destroyed by the guerillas for the purpose of delaying the movement of the Japanese forces. The San Miguel River was frequently visited by people from different barangays as the same was clean for them to take bath and wash clothes, if not, do a picnic. In 1941, during the incumbency of Hon. Gregorio Balatan as mayor of Nabua, the Nabua High School (Nabua National High School) was established. Likewise, during the incumbency of Hon. Ulpiano D. Duran, Municipal Mayor of Nabua, the Camarines Sur Polytechnic colleges was approved into law under Presidential Decree No. P.D. 512 on June 30, 1983. Today, both the Nabua National High School and Camarines Sur polytechnic Colleges have produces men and women of special skills of different professions they have finished. The main sources of income are government and private employees, business, dollar earnings and farming. All roads within the three (3) zones of Barangay San Miguel are concreted. Basketball court and recreational area are within the vicinity of the Barangay. Hundred percent of the houses has its sanitary facilities. There are five (5) potable drinking water, two (2) each at Zones 1 and 2 and one (1) at Zone 3within they serve not only to the constituents of this Barangay but also from neighboring barangays. Barangay San Miguel is accessible to all kinds of land transportation vehicles going to and from the Barit River.
