At present the jurisdiction of NEHU is the state of Meghalaya having one campus at Tura in Garo Hills. This 45th annual report presents the activities and achievements of the University for the period from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019. The information incorporated in this annual report is based on the report provided by the Academic departments/Centre, administrative departments and Central services of the University. Background The University has eight schools of study: (i) School of Economics, Management and Information Sciences (SEMIS) (ii) School of Education (SE) (iii) School of Humanities (SH) (iv) School of Human and Environmental Science (SHES) (v) School of Life Sciences (SLS) (vi) School of Physical Sciences (SPS) (vii) School of Social Sciences (SSS) and (viii) School of Technology (SOT), consisting of 44 Departments and 1 Centre. The number of Departments and Centre in each school of study are shown in the following fig.1 Fig. 1: Number of Departments in each School of Studies Total number of Departments at Shillong and Tura campuses are 35 and 9 respectively. Only one Centre named Distance Education is located in Bijni campus of NEHU, Shillong. Many Departments of the University offer Postgraduate teaching and Ph.D. programme. Some Departments offer M.Phil. programme also. Some Departments also offer undergraduate degrees but almost all the Departments of the University are involved in the research activities. Many Departments are supported by the central Governments funding agencies like v Special Assistance Programme(SAP) and Fund for Improvement of S&T infrastructure in universities & higher educational institutions (FIST) Department of Science and Technology. Two departments Botany and Chemistry are recognized by the UGC as the Centre for advanced studies. There are 71 affiliated colleges in which 33 have got permanent affiliation and 38 are temporarily affiliated. The above figures include the Prestigious North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS)also. Several awards have been instituted by NEHU are awarded as follows-: President of India, Dr. Shankar Doyal Sharma Gold medal was awarded to Ms. Alka Blah of Commerce Department and Ms. Ristabell Marak of Garo Department. Srimati Sarada Krishna Iyer Memorial Award was given to Ms. Mapukala Jamir and Ms. Teresa C. Lalruatpuii of Political Science Department. U Tirot Sing Memorial Prize was given to Mr. Songachan H A S of Good Will College and Ms. Nerisita Shylla of Jaintia Eastern College. Prof. M. K. Khare Memorial Prize was given to Ms. Keleni-I Nagi and Ms. Riva Mary Rani of Zoology Department. Prof. M. N. Karna Young Sociologist Prize was given to Ms. Evangelyne Wahlang and Ms. Risalina Veema Syngkon of Sociology Department. Rajendra Kumar Sunaheri Devi Jain Charitable Endowment Book Grant award went to Ms. Mary Lalruatsangi and Ms. Rizhune. Dr. D. S. Babu Memorial Awards was given to Ms. Georgina Banylla Kharlukhiand Ms. Irilang Lyngdoh Mawlong of Education Department. Prof. S. S. Khare Promising Mathematician Award was given to Mr. Santosh Safi and Mr. Phyrnailang Warjri. Administrative Departments of the University consist of the College Development council, Examination Department, Finance Department and Planning Department. The Central services of the University comprises of Bioinformatics Centre, Campus Development Department, Career and Counselling Cell (Shillong) , Career Counseling Cell (Tura Campus), Central Library(Shillong) ,Central Library (Tura Campus), Computer Centre ,Equal Opportunity Cell, Health Centre, Hindi Cell, Internal Quality Insurance Cell, National Service Scheme (NSS)Cell, NEHU Data and Voice Network(NDVN),Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility( SAIF),Sports Department, Students’ Welfare Cell ,UGC- Human Resource Development Centre and Internal Complaint Cell etc. Teaching faculty and Non-teaching staff The University has 465 sanctioned posts of which 310 have been filled under five categories Gen., OBC, SC, ST and PWD. 155 teaching posts are lying vacant under different categories of teachers. Two additional post are there. The detail description of the sanctioned, filled and vacant posts of the faculties of the University are given in figure 2. vi Fig. 2: Teaching Staff Position Total sanctioned post of Non-teaching staff in the University are 1012 under which Group-A, Group-B, Group-C and Group-D are 64,185,451 and 312 respectively. Filled posts of Non- teaching staff are 527 and vacant posts are 485. The figure 3 describes the detail of the sanctioned, filled and vacant positions of the non-teaching staff. Fig. 3: Non-Teaching Staff Position Student Enrollment NEHU is a teaching cum affiliating University in Meghalaya and attracts students from different parts of the country and also from abroad. Students’ admission in the various Departments are done on the basis of rules laid down by the University as per guide line of the UGC. The University has adopted Choice Based Credit system(CBCS) at its post graduate Departments and in some undergraduate Departments. vii During the year 2018-2019, 5235 students have been enrolled in various courses of the University. Thus students –teacher ratio is about 12:1 Enrollments of the students in various courses of the University Departments are given in the figure 4 and also in the tabular form in table number 1.
