1 QUESTIONNAIRE TO HINDU RELIGIOUS AND CHARITABLE ENDOWMENTS DEPARTMENT 1. Please furnish a list of number of temples, Mutts, Endowments, educational institutions, Social Welfare Institutions, Health Centres, etc. under the administrative control of your Department. 2 Please list out the temples and religious institutions under the control of HR&CE, based on annual income. 3. What are the schemes implemented by your Department in temples brought under HR&CE? The annual cost of such schemes and the source of funding may be furnished. 4. Please furnish the details on Income and Expenditure of your Department covering all temples under HR&CE for the past 3 years viz. 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 in the following format: (Rupees in lakh) Income Expenditure i) Grants from State Capital Expenditure Government on temples ii) Grants from Revenue Central Expenditure Government iii) Lease amount from i) Salaries of temple lands and temple staff buildings iv) Income from ii) Maintenance of educational temples institutions v) Contributions from iii) Others devotees (Hundi collections) vi) Donations vii) Others Total Total 2 Please furnish the annual accounts pertaining to the year 2008- 09, 2009-10 for the following temples: 5. Srirangam, Tiruvannamalai, Rameswaram, Tiruchendur, Madurai, Samayapuram .6, i) Please furnish a list of District wises notified festivals in Tamilnadu. ii) If there is any other local festivals in Districts which are not covered in the list but attracting larage member of devotees to that temple town, such details may be furnished. 7. Please furnish the data on floating population on normal days and festive occasions in major temple cities like Madurai, Rameswaram, Thanjavur, Tiruttani, Tiruchendur, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Palani, Tiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Samayapuram, Srirangam, etc. 8. It is well known that the basic amenities for the pilgrims such as cottages, cloak rooms, electrification, footwear safety are provided either free or at a nominal cost by HR&CE in the temple assets in and around the temple premises. Whether civic amenities such as drinking water, public toilets, sanitation, etc. are done by your Dept. in areas other than temple premises? 9. i) Does your Department collect entry toll from vehicles entering the town where temple are situated? If so, the rates of toll, the overall annual income from this source in all temples under HR&CE may be furnished. ii) Details on local bodies in temple town which collect and retain tolls on vehicles may also be furnish. 10. In temple cities, during normal days, the civic amenities such as roads, street lighting, drinking water supply, public toilets, garbage clearance, storm water draining, etc. are done by the concerned local bodies. During festive occasions, the floating populations of pilgrims need more civic facilities in the cities/town/villages where temples are situated. Such needs are being met by the local bodies. i) Whether the capital and maintenance expenditure incurred by local bodies in temple town during notified festivals are shared by HR&CE Dept.? If so, the percentage of sharing, procedure in reimbursement, conditions if any for reimbursement ,time taken for reimbursement and issues if any may be furnished. 3 ii) Is there any other financial assistance offered to local bodies in temple areas by HR&CE Dept.? 11. Any other issue to be highlighted before the Commission. .
