Liturgy for Cantors

1 THE DIVINE LITURGY OF SAINT JOHN CHRYSOSTOM Traditional Serbian Chant prepared by St. Luke’s Serbian Orthodox Mission www.sv-luka.org 2 THE DIVINE LITURGY OF SAINT JOHN CHRYSOSTOM If it is a Hierarchical Liturgy, the cantors assemble prior to the bishop’s arrival. As the bishop enters the church the cantors sing Dostojno jest or the appropriate irmos. After the bishop venerates the icons he blesses the people and we then sing Ton despotin and Is pola eti despota! While the bishop is vesting, the cantors sing Slava … i ninje … Car nebesnij (dogmatic in the 8th tone). After the vesting, the deacon hands the dikirije and trikirije to the bishop, with which he blesses the people, at which the people again sing Ton despotin and Is pola eti despota!
