May 3 VPAP’s annual luncheon is a rare unifying event in Virginia politics that offers all sides a chance to come together. Officeholders from both parties try stand-up comedy and make lighthearted jabs at themselves and others. More than 500 people—from government affairs professionals to political activists—enjoyed comedic turns by Gov. Ralph Northam and U.S. Rep. Dave Brat. Beau Cribbs (left) warmed up the crowd as master of ceremonies. After Virginia Votes November 13 Virginia’s election calendar would not be complete without VPAP’s post-election retrospective—a unique dialogue between strategists from Democratic and Republican campaigns. “After Virginia Votes” is organized by VPAP and hosted by the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. This year’s event offered a behind-the-scenes look at Virginia’s midterm elections from U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine’s campaign manager Kéren Charles Dongo and veteran Republican strategist Chris Jankowski.
