................................................................................................. 99 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 REQUIREMENT FOR A LOCAL PLANNING STRATEGY This Local Planning Strategy for the former Town and Shire of Narrogin has been prepared jointly by the two local governments pursuant to the requirements of Part 3 of the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations (2015) (the Regulations) under the provisions of the Planning and Development Act 2005 . It has been prepared in response to the requirement for a new local planning scheme for the Town and the Shire to help guide and control the future development and use of land within their respective municipal districts for the benefit of current and future generations. On 1 July 2016, the former Shire and Town of Narrogin were formally gazetted as one entity under the new Shire of Narrogin. 1.2 ROLE & PURPOSE OF A LOCAL PLANNING STRATEGY A Local Planning Strategy, in accordance with the Regulations, must set out the long-term planning directions for the local government; apply any State or regional planning policy that is relevant to the strategy;
