Korean-American Meetup On July 17, over 400 Korean American community leaders from across the country will come to the Capitol for the first ever Korean American Meetup. This is a great way for Members to connect with local Korean American leaders from their districts and build stronger relationships. Attached, you will find the itinerary of events and tips on how to easily do outreach. He was elected by his colleagues in the House to serve as the Majority Leader for the 112th and 113th Congresses, after previously serving as Minority Whip from 2009-2011. Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) Cathy McMorris Rodgers now serves her fifth term representing Washington’s Fifth Congressional District. In 2008, McMorris Rodgers was elected to serve in the House Republican Leadership, where she held the office of Vice Chair of the Conference for the next four years. In November 2012, she was elected to serve as Chairman of the Conference, the fourth- highest-ranking position among House Republicans. She is the highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress. 3 Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (CA-39) Ed Royce is serving his eleventh term in Congress, representing Southern California’s 39th district, based in Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. Royce was selected to be Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 113th Congress. Former Chairman of the U.S.-Republic of Korea Interparliamentary Exchange, Royce was also one of the leading champions of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement. Representative Tim Griffin (AR-02) Tim Griffin was elected as Arkansas’s Second Congressional Representative in 2010. The Congressman is a fifth generation Arkansan, veteran, attorney and former small business owner. Along with currently serving in his 17th year as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Griffin also serves on the Human Resources and the Social Security subcommittees of the Ways and Means Committee and as Assistant Whip for the majority. 4 Representative John Mica (FL-07) John L. Mica was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 to represent Florida’s 7th Congressional District, which includes Orange, Seminole, and Volusia Counties. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations in the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Representative Ted Poe (TX-02) Ted Poe was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004. Prior to serving in Congress, Ted Poe worked as a criminal court judge in Houston. He currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee, and the Foreign Affairs Committee as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade. 5 Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-27) Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was born in Havana, Cuba and was forced to flee from the oppressive communist regime of Fidel Castro, settling in Miami, FL. As the first Hispanic woman to serve in Congress, she was elected to the House of Representatives in 1989. Ros-Lehtinen serves as Chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and now Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa. She also serves as a member of the House Committee on Rules. Representative Dave Schweikert (AZ-06) Dave Schweikert was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2011. He serves as a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology and of the Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations. The Congressman also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Small Businesses. 6 Representative Rob Woodall (GA-07) This is Rob Woodall’s second term serving in the United States House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committee on Rules, the House Budget Committee, and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Inform your constituents that the event will be live streamed on www.gop.gov/live – so make sure to urge them to watch the Main Event, even if they can’t be here in DC! Conduct a brief on-camera discussion with Korean American leaders from your district and post the video on YouTube. Ask them what their legislative priorities are, which issues are most important to their communities, and what they would like to see accomplished in the 113th Congress.
