© Red Book of Scotland - 2021 DUNCAN of LUNDIE & CAMPERDOWN WILLIAM DUNCAN OF SEASYDE, was a Merchant and Burgess in Dundee and acquired the lands of Seaside. He had a charter under the Great Seal for those of of Badiehill, in the barony of Barrie, on 22 February 1667,1 and was father of : 1. Alexander Duncan of Seasyde and 1st of Lundie, (see below). 2. Ann Duncan, m. at Dundee, on 15 February 1672, to William Oliphant, Merchant in Dundee,2 and had issue. ALEXANDER DUNCAN OF SEASYDE & 1ST OF LUNDIE, succeeded his father in the lands of Seaside and acquired those of Lundie, in Forfarshire, from Colin Campbell of Lundie in 1677. He m. at Dundee, on 10 January 1673, to Anna, daughter of John Drummond, 1st of Megginch,3 (she d. in April 1695, aged 42 years and was buried in the Howff, Dundee4), and d. in April of 1696, aged 44 years.5 He was father of : 1. John Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 8 November 1676 and dsp, his brother Alexander being served heir general to him on 8 October 1701. 2. Alexander Duncan, 2nd of Lundie, (see below). 3. George Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on Wednesday 21 March 1683. 4. William Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 4 February 1692. 5. Patrick Maxwell of Tealing, (c/m 2 August 16931). 7. Jean Duncan, m. on 6 December 1696, to John Scrimgeour, younger of Tealing,2 and had issue. 8. Christian Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 18 February 1685. 9. Anne Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 14 December 1687 and d. in infancy. 10. Anne Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 1 January 1691 and m. on 16 September 1709, to Patrick Murray, 1st of Aytoun,3 (he d. in November of 1773). She d. on 18 July 1773, and had issue. ALEXANDER DUNCAN, 2ND OF LUNDIE, bap. at Lundie, on 23 November 1678, and succeeded his father to whom he was served heir general on 12 November 1698.4 He m. on 19 April 1702, to Isobel, daughter of Sir Patrick Murray, 9th of Ochtertyre,5 d. in January of 1719, and was father of : 1. Alexander Duncan, 3rd of Lundie, (see below). 2. Patrick Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 10 June 1706. 3. William Duncan, bap. at Dundee, on 22 June 1707. 4. Isobel Duncan, b. on 19 January 1719 and d. at Lundie House, in 1797. He d. at Gourdie, on 19 October 17714 and was father of : 1. ALEXANDER DUNCAN, 4TH OF LUNDIE, succeeded his father and was served heir to his grandfather, Alexander Duncan of Lundie, in the lands of Over Smithston, Ardgath and Ledcrieff on 14 January 1773.5 He m. on 27 September September 1776, to Katherine, daughter of David Smythe, 3rd of Methven,6 (she (she survived him and d. at Aberdeen, in June of 18007), and had dsp by November of 1796 when his brother Adam was served heir to him. 2. Adam Duncan, 5th of Lundie, (see below). 3. Katherine Duncan, m. at Gourdie, on 15 December 1762, to Captain James Haldane of Airthrey,8 (he d. at Gourdie, near Dundee, on 30 June 17689), and surviving her husband, she d. at Lundie, in September of 1774. They had issue. Alexander Haldane Duncan, bap. on 29 January 1781 and dsp on 27 November 1802. His brother Robert was served heir to him on 14 June 1803.4 2. William Duncan, bap. on 11 January 1780 and dsp vita patris at Edinburgh, on 23 January 1789.5 3. Robert Haldane Duncan, (see below). 4. Sir Henry Duncan, b. on 27 April 1786, entered the Royal Navy and served as Captain and storekeeper of the Ordnance. He m. at Restalrig House, on 22 April 1823, to Mary Simpson, daughter of Captain James Coutts Crawford, R.N.,6 and d. at Eaton Place, London, on Sunday 14 February 1836,7 having had issue, issue, 4a} Adam Alexander Duncan Morison of Naughton, b. on 23 June 1824 and m. at Edinburgh, on 1 March 1853, to Catherine Unice, second daughter of Major Forbes MacKenzie of Fodderty,8 (she d. at Naughton on 30 June June 1894), following which he assumed the additional surname and arms of Morison. Adamina Helen Duncan, bap. on 8 September 1783 and m. at Edinburgh, on 8 June 1825, to Sir John Hamilton-Dalrymple, Earl of Stair.3 7. Mary Tufton Duncan, m. on 20 July 1813, to James Dundas of Dundas,4 (he d. on 9 March 1881), and d. at Dundas Castle, on Friday 24 May 1867,5 having issue. ROBERT DUNDAS DUNCAN-DUNCAN, 1ST EARL OF CAMPERDOWN, b. on 28 March 1785 and succeeding his father, he was served heir of taillie and provision to him in the lands of Gleneagles, Douglage and others, on 28 January 1805.6 He was further raised in the peerage as Earl of Camperdown in 1831. He m. on 8 January 1805, Janet, daughter of Sir Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple, Baronet, of North Berwick, and d. on 22 December 1859,7 having had issue, 1. A son, who d. in infancy on November 1805.8 2. Adam Duncan Haldane, 2nd Earl of Camperdown, (see below). 3. Hew Adam Dalrymple Hamilton Haldane-Duncan-Mercer-Henderson, b. on 31 January 1820 and m. at St. Paul’s, Knightsbridge, London, on 26 April 1866, to Edith Isabella, daughter and heir of Douglas Mercer Henderson of Fordell,9 1 Statutory record.
