Golden Eagles Baseball 2 HEAD COA ch #11 - VINCE BERINGHELE - 6TH SEA S ON - 132-115 (.534 WINNING PCT .) After guiding the Golden Eagles to another strong season in 2012, Vince Beringhele returns for his sixth season as the Cal State L.A. head baseball coach. Beringhele led the Golden Eagles to its second straight winning season and to the brink of a spot in the four-team California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament. The Golden Eagles were also in contention for their first NCAA playoff bid since 2007 up until the final weekend of the regular season. Cal State L.A. finished with a 26-22 overall record and a 21-17 mark in conference play. For the second straight year, Cal State L.A. finished just one game out of a playoff spot. The Golden Eagles were especially tough at home, where they compiled a 17-4 record and won their final eight contests at Reeder Field. Beringhele led a team that featured All-American Daniel Duran, who set a new program record by hitting .451 on the season. Duran was named the CCAA and NCAA Division II West Region Player of the Year. Duran became the Golden Eagles’ first CCAA Player of the Year since 1998 and the first West Region Player of the Year since 2007. Cal State L.A. had a player earn All-America honors for a fourth straight year. In his first five years at Cal State L.A., Beringhele has led the Golden Eagles to a 132-115 overall record and a 102-83 mark in conference play. Cal State L.A. has had 25 players earn All-Conference honors, 13 players make All-West Region teams and four players earn All-America recognition in his first five years as the head coach. Cal State L.A. has had a first-team All-West Region player in each of Beringhele’s five seasons with the program. Beringhele has led the Golden Eagles to winning seasons in four of his five years with the program. Beringhele The 2012 season was a successful follow-up to a bounce-back year in 2011. Cal State L.A. wound up with a 27-23 overall vs Opponents record and was 21-19 in conference play. The Golden Eagles finished just one game out of a spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament and were ranked in the national top-25 polls during the regular season. Total ...........17-18 (.486%) Cal State L.A. was 32-17 overall in 2009 and posted a 22-11 in conference play. The Golden Eagles earned the No. 3 seed in the CCAA tournament. Cal State L.A. lost to Sonoma State in the opening round, beat Cal State Dominguez Hills Conference Opponents in an elimination game and then lost to Sonoma State later in the day, 10-9, to exit the tournament.
