PADDY O’PRADO TO SPENDTHRIFT FEATURE PRESENTATION • G1 JULY CUP Paddy O=Prado (El Prado {Ire}--Fun House, by Prized), who was retired after suffering an injury while winning the GII Dixie S. in May, will begin his stud career in 2012 at at B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. AWe are thrilled with the addition of Paddy O'Prado to the Spendthrift Farm stallion roster and to our very popular Share The Upside program,@ said Ned Toffey, Spendthrift Farm general manager. AHe is a grand-looking animal with a world of talent on the racetrack. That, coupled with the success of sons of El GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT Prado at stud such as Medaglia d'Oro and Kitten's Joy, Delegator (GB) (Dansili {GB}) would have a G1 2000 will make Paddy O'Prado a very attractive stallion Guineas under his belt had he not run into Sea the Stars prospect.@ Bred in Kentucky by Winchell Thoroughbreds (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) two LLC, Paddy O=Prado was purchased by Jerry Crawford=s years ago, but the wheel of Donegal Racing for $105,000 and turned over to trainer fortune could turn for him Dale Romans. The grey colt won his maiden in the today as he lines up as grassy GIII Palm Beach S., then was runner-up in the favorite for the six-furlong GI Toyota Blue Grass S. on the Keeneland Polytrack G1 Darley July Cup. ahead of a third-place effort in the GI Kentucky Derby Campaigned exclusively over on conventional dirt. He made four of his final five a mile or seven furlongs until starts of his sophomore season back on the turf, his latest successful outing in accounting for the GII Colonial Turf Cup, the GII Virginia the May 11 G2 Duke of York Derby and the GI Secretariat S. (video), following in the Delegator S. over this trip, his footsteps of former Dale Romans trainee Kitten=s Joy. The 4-year-old heads to stud with a record of according to Godolphin Racing Manager Simon Crisford. 14-5-3-3 and earnings of $1,721,297. A stud fee will ASprinting has been in the back of our mind for a long be determined and announced at a later date. time, but we just haven=t had the opportunity to do it,@ Crisford said yesterday. AI think six furlongs is the trip for him. We=re hoping he can make up for a bit of lost time, as he missed most of last season with a very small problem with his pastern. That held him up and he missed some key events, and that=s why we couldn=t campaign him in the sprint races last year. The ground was against him for some of the other sprinting races, so we had to stick to a mile. His preparation has been very good, and he=s in excellent shape. He needs to prove to everyone that he=s better than his current Simon Crisford & rating, and we believe he Sheikh Mohammed can. I know there is rain Horsephotos about, but I don=t think it=s a significant amount and, hopefully, not enough to jeopardize our chances.@ Cont. p2-4 www.coolmore.com P TDN HEADLINE NEWS • 7/9/11 • PAGE 2 of 17 • thoroughbreddailynews.com Today’s Graded Stakes brought to you by EST Race Click for TV 9:20a Superlative S.-G2, Nmk (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 10:35a July Cup-G1, Nmk (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 10:45a Summer Mile S.-G2-Asc ----------------------- -------- 3:57p R G Dick Mem’l-GIII, Del (brisnet.com PPs) HR/TVG 4:14p Azalea S.-GIII, Crc (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 4:40p Carry Back S.-GII, Crc (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 4:51p Delaware Oaks-GII, Del (brisnet.com PPs) HR/TVG 5:07p Smile Sprint H.-GII, Crc (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 5:17p Man o’War S.-GI, Bel (brisnet.com PPs) HR/TVG 5:32p Princess Rooney H.-GI, Crc (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 5:34p Swaps S.-GII, Hol (brisnet.com PPs) T V G 5:43p Modesty H.-GIII, AP (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 6:12p American Derby-GII, AP (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV 6:41p Arlington H.-GIII, AP (brisnet.com PPs) HRTV Hollywood Gold Cup-GI 7:37p , Hol (brisnet.com PPs) T V G Pomeroy colt Flashpoint now a MGSW! He caused an upset himself when successful in the 2009 G1 Haydock Sprint Cup and added Deauville=s G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest to his tally last August. In three of his four starts this year, the evidence has been that age may be catching up with him, but he was only a half- length behind Delegator in the Duke of York. His trainer believes he can still shake up the main contenders. ADelegator is favourite for Saturday, and we were only half a length behind him at York,@ Nicholls told PA Sport. AIf my lad can run up to his best, I would definitely give him a shout. He=s had a couple of below-par efforts this year, which is unlike him, but we know he=s a good horse. Maybe he=s just a better horse with a bigger field, as his best two wins have come when there were loads of runners. He seems very well in himself and, hopefully, we=ll see the Regal Parade of old.@ Richard Hannon has two strong contenders in Monsieur Chevalier, who was second in the G1 Golden Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot last time June 18, and Libranno, who took the G3 Criterion S. over seven furlongs in his latest here June 25. The latter also captured the G2 July S. over this track and trip 12 months ago and that proven track form will help him here. AIt might have been a blessing in disguise--him missing his second season through injury--as it is always tough for 3-year-old sprinters, but he has bounced right back to his best this year and ran a stormer to be beaten only half a length in the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot,@ Hannon said of Monsieur Chyevalier. AA reproduction of that form would put him bang there, though he likes to come through horses, so he will need the breaks. Libranno made all when winning the Criterion S. and, if anything, is even better over six and, though it is never easy beating your elders at this time of the year, he has done it once.@ Both Libranno and Monsieur Chevalier had previously trailed Khalid Abdullah=s Bated Breath when third and fourth, respectively, in the Listed Leisure S. over this trip at Windsor May 23. Bated Breath was fifth in the Golden Jubilee last time, and may find this drier ground more in his favor. ABated Breath is in good order, and I think he will be a better horse on quicker ground,@ trainer Roger Charlton, who also saddles the June 25 G3 Chipchase S. winner Genki, told PA Sport. ALooking at the forecast, I think the ground will probably be OK, but you never know. I=m very happy with the horse. It=s a competitive race, obviously, and I would say there is probably only a length between seven or eight of the runners. Genki is in great form and looks wonderful at the moment. He=s taking his racing really well and he=s improving all the time. I was impressed with his last race at Newcastle, and I think he=s in with a shout.@ Aidan O=Brien has been responsible for two of this race=s great winners in Stravinsky and Mozart (Ire), and while Oracle has plenty to find to figure here, he has a similar profile to the latter having finished third in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh May 21 and fourth in the G3 Jersey S.
