FWEA WEST COAST CHAPTER NEWSLETTER WINTER 2017 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR IN THIS ISSUE Alice Varkey, GHD Message from the Chair We are approaching the end of the 2016-17 FWEA year and on behalf of the FWEA West Coast 2016/2017 Steering Committee Chapter Steering Committee, I would like to thank our members once again for your active and Members continued support of the chapter’s events and initiatives these past few months. We are looking forward to the last few events we have planned for the rest of the 2016-17 year Upcoming Events ending in April. Our upcoming events include the Winter Luncheon, our last quarterly luncheon for 2016-17, on Thursday, February 23rd at the Columbia Restaurant in Tampa. Our Seth M. Siegel at USF topic for this luncheon is “National and Local Visions for the Future”, and our speakers will be Dr. Jim Mihelcic from the University of South Florida and Brad Baird from the City of 2nd Annual Sporting Clays Tampa. We also have our 2nd Annual Sporting Clays Tournament on Friday February 24th, which will be held at Fishhawk Sporting Clays in Lithia. As you know, no experience is required Tournament for this event! A Plant Tour of Pinellas County’s South Cross Bayou WRF on followed by a Happy Hour is scheduled for Friday, March 10th. On Thursday March 23rd, we will be YP Upcoming Events holding our Annual RoundTable Luncheon at the Rusty Pelican in Tampa. This year’s topic is “Me, Myself, and I&I”. To conclude a very successful year and encourage continued Annual RoundTable Luncheon participation from students and Young Professionals (YPs), our chapter is organizing a Young Professionals Luncheon on Friday, April 18th at Hillsborough County BSOC. USF Seminar As part of our effort to promote public awareness, our chapter is hosting a Saturday with STEM event for middleschool students. Since this is the first year we are holding this event, we Dr. Mihelcic named WEF Fellow will be limiting it to students from Dowdell Middle school, where the event is being held. Our plan is to continue to grow this event in size in the upcoming years! At this time, we are looking USF Teams at WEFTEC 2016 for YP volunteers to help with this event. Past Event: Kappe Lecture Our chapter would like to congratulate Dr. James Mihelcic , Professor at the University of South Florida. Dr. Mihelcic was recently named a WEF Fellow by the WEF Board of Trustees. As I mentioned, above Dr. Mihelcic will also be one of our spekers at our Winter Thank You to Our Sponsors Quarterly Luncheon.
