Dear Jemma Foster I write with reference to the above application, to which I and my wife wish to object on the following grounds. By way of introduction, I am on the Parish Council for Wanstrow, only 8 miles to the west in Mendip D.C., Somerset. As a small rural parish on the same eastern ridge of the Mendips, we have had applications for 7 large turbines of similar size in the last 2 years. The PC did not contest the first 2 on the basis of location, visual impact, current cumulative effect etc. However all subsequent ones have been recommended for refusal on various grounds including cumulative effect, visual impact and adverse effect on setting of heritage assets. The Torr Works wind farm of 4 was subsequently refused by MDC's Planning Board, as was a neighbouring one in Chantry, and another (at Cloford near Nunney Catch)) was withdrawn due to weight of evidence brought against it by the Parish Council and other objectors. I feel it is important that Wiltshire Council is made aware of objections and grounds for refusal of very similar turbines only 7 to 10 miles to the west of this application, but in Mendip DC's area. As an individual I wish to object to this application on visual impact, both in conjunction with the effect on the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire AONB and also especially as the proposal lies so close to Cley Hill, a scheduled Ancient Monument. I was resident in the nearby parish of Dilton Marsh for many years and am fully conversant with the lie of the land where the application is proposed, and the adverse effects it would introduce. The applicant, Clearwood Energy Ltd., seeks to downplay the impact this application will have on the surrounding countryside, the conservation areas and the heritage assets. This follows patterns we have seen in all other local turbine applications and is certainly proven not to be the case, particularly as experienced by the Landmarks Farm and Weston Town turbines which are now functioning on the border of Witham Friary and in Wanstrow parishes. I urge you to refuse this application as it certainly seems that there is ample evidence for an inspector to refuse this at appeal in the same way that other turbine applications have been, for instance the application at Moorhayes Farm, Wincanton, which was for a smaller proposal.
