ZUBlRl RESOLUTION CONG RATULATl NG AND COM MEND1 NG MAN NY "PAC MAN" PACQUIAO FOR HIS HISTORY-SETTING FEAT IN PROFESSIONAL BOXING AS THE FIRST FILIPINO AND ASIAN TO CAPTURE FOUR WORLD TITLES IN FOUR DIFFERENT WEIGHT DIVISIONS AFTER BEATING DEFENDING CHAMPION DAVID DlAZ OF USA AND MEXICO IN THE WORLD BOXING COUNCIL LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE AND FOR BRINGING GREAT PRIDE AND HONOR TO OUR COUNTRY WHEREAS, Manny "PACMAN" Pacquiao has won a spectacular ninth round knockout against Mexican-American David Diaz during their bout dubbed as "Lethal Combination" in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on June 28,2008; WHEREAS, this recent victory of Pacquiao earned him the World Boxing Council Lightweight Title and catapulted him as the first Filipino and Asian to capture four world titles in four different weight divisions and became the ninth boxer in recorded history of the sport to hold such record, joining the league of boxing legends that includes Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Roy Jones Jr.; WHEREAS, Pacquiao's history-setting victory has earned tremendous pride and honor to our country and cemented his reputation as the best pound- for-pound boxer in the world today; WHEREAS, Pacquiao possesses a good Filipino trait of faith in God and spirituality which he manifests by praying before and after his fight and such trait reflects that he is truly a role model for the Filipino youth; WHEREAS, Pacquiao continues to bring pride and honor to our country and unites the Filipinos everywhere in the world during his fights: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved by the Senate to congratulate and commend Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao for his history- setting feat in professional boxing as the first Filipino and Asian to capture four world titles in four different weight divisions after beating defending champion David Diaz of USA and Mexico in the World Boxing Council (WBC) Lightweight Title and for bringing great pride and honor to our country.
