During the month of March, 45 officers and 1833 enlisted personnel joined the Division. Personnel transferred by normal rotation were 51 officers and 1287 enlisted. Personnel transferred by service records due to MedEvacs--ere 10 officers abd 608 enlisted. Other strength of 3d Marine Division-on 31 March was 1,172 Officers and 21, 607 Enlisted. b. Alard recommendations submitted to PI1Pac: 5 Navy Crosses, 18 Silver Stars, 2 Legions of Meftp I Navy and Marine Corps Medal, 70 Bronze Stars, 21 Air Medals, 25 Navy Commendation Medals and 20 Navy Achievement Medals. The following awards were returned from F1'Pao approv-ed: NaVy Cro s,-4 Silver Stars, I Legion of Merit, 2 Navy and Marine Corps Medals, 55 Bronze Stars, 52 Air Medals, 61 Navy Commendation Medals. Additionally, 520 Purple Heart Medals were issued. c. Distribution of Presidential Unit Citation Certificates to organic units of the 3d Marine Division has commenced. Certificates for units not organic to the 3d Marine Division are being held in abeyance pending notification by Headquarters Marine Corps. d. Casualties sustained during the month included: 315 KIA, 1217 laIA, 4 DOW, 5 NdD, 41 NHI and 15 MIA. e. Congressional Interest Cases: 194 cases processed, 72 cases completed, 80 cases pending, 31 cases readdressed to other commands and 11 cases required no reply. There were 195 Welfare reports to 011. f. Discharges: 5 Hardship Discharges approved, 4 Hardship Discharges forwarded to 0TC for decision. There are 8 Hardship Discharges, 2 Unsuitable Discharges and 2 Misconduct Discharges pending. I Unfitness Discharge and 2 Misconduct Discharges have been forT-arded to C0MC recommending retention. g. The S7A Hut housing Central Files has been modified to in- clude an addition of an enclosed room of 72 square feet. This additional space will accommodate the Zerox copier, which will be ready for opera- tion when an adequate power source is available. An air conditioner has been installed. h. The displacement from Phu Bai to Q4ang Tri was done in two in- crements. No significant problem areas resulted from the move. The transition was relatively smooth, full operations were resumed uithin a few days. DECLASSIFIED DECLASSIFIED i, On 23 March, an additional 120 local national civilians were hired to fill •and bags. This figure raises the total LNC's on Board strength to 245. These LNC's are paid from appropriateed funds through the Naval Support Activity, Danang at the rate of 20.2 piasters an hour cr 161.6 piasters per day.
