
Program Director: Date: 7.25.13 Subject to Change 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships August 15-18 Hartford, Connecticut MEN’S COMPETITION TECHNICAL INFORMATION Competition Format All-Around, Individual Event and National Team Determination – Junior and Senior Divisions 1. Individual Event & Based on the combined scores using both the Preliminary and the Men’s Finals All Around competitions. The top 3 in the 15 – 16 year Division and the top 3 in the 17 – 18 - Jr. Elite year Division on each event will be recognized at the conclusion of the Junior Men’s Finals on Sunday August 18. Only athletes who compete in the Jr. Elite Session on Sunday August 18 are eligible for Junior AA and IE awards. 2. Individual Event and Based on the combined scores using both the Preliminary and the Men’s Finals All Around competitions. The top 6 on each event and in the All-Around will be recognized - Senior at the conclusion of the Senior Men’s Finals on Sunday August 18. 3. Junior / Senior The top six (6) All Around athletes from the Junior Elite Session on Friday Men's Prelims August 16 will advance to the Senior Elite Session on August 18 if those athletes are also among the top 36 athletes in the National Points Program results at the conclusion of competition on Friday, August 16. All other athletes from the Junior Elite Session on Friday, August 16 will advance to the Junior Elite Session on August 18. All athletes from the Senior Division Session on Friday, August 16 will advance to the Senior Division Session on August 18. 4. Junior Elite Men The top seven (7) athletes in the 15 to 16 age division and the top seven (7) National Team athletes in the 17 to 18 age division will be selected rank order to the Junior Selection Elite National Team using the combined all-around scores from Preliminary competition held on Friday August 16, plus the all-around score from the Men’s Finals sessions held on Sunday August 18. Age eligible juniors may be competing in either the junior or senior division sessions. Only athletes who competed Optional Routines and Technical Sequences at the Junior Olympic National Championships or at the National Qualifier or who successfully petitioned into the Junior Division of the P&G Gymnastics Championships are eligible for the Junior National Team. The Junior Elite National Team will be announced at the conclusion of the Junior Men’s Finals competition on Sunday August 18. 1 5. Senior Men The Senior National Team will be determined at the 2013 P&G Gymnastics Finals Competition Championships by the following: & National Team The top 6 All-Around athletes using the combined all-around results from two Selection days of competition in the Senior Division. The top 4 National Team Points Program athletes (not included in the top 6 All-Around) – see Attachment G. Four (4) athletes will be selected by the Men’s Program Committee from among the competitors at the 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships or from qualified petitioned athletes. One (1) athlete will be selected by the Men’s National Team Coordinator from among the competitors at the 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships or from qualified petitioned athletes. Competition Rules A. This will be an FIG rules event with the exceptions noted below. The following documents will be used: FIG Code of Points –the current version which can be found at http://www.fig-gymnastics.com/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,5187-188050-205272-nav-list,00.html Current version of the USA/NGJA Rules Interpretations which can be found at http://www.ngja.org/ 2013 USA Gymnastics Special Bonus – Attachment F C. There will be four (4) judges per event for all sessions of competition. Two (2) judges will perform D & E panel duties and two (2) judges will perform only E jury duties. D. Warm-ups will be open with the exception of Parallel Bars, which will have assigned time blocks with the rotation based on starting event (i.e. – the group which starts on PB will have the last warm-up block time at PB). Parallel Bar Timed Warm Up Schedule for both Friday and Sunday competition (all other events are open warm-up) Subject to change Note: The athlete warms up on parallel bars at the time listed below his starting competitive event. Example: 1st event in Day 1 Senior competition is SR, warm up at parallel bars from 5:55 – 6:10. A 30 second (50 seconds for PB) one-touch warm-up will be used prior to the start of each rotation. There will be a timer at PB. F. The FIG competition pants rule will be in effect. (Black or the darker shades of blue, brown or green are not permitted) G. The Broken Hand Guard rule will apply, i.e., a retrial for the breaking of a hand guard or dowel is allowed, at the discretion of the head judge. H. IMPORTANT: In order for a coach to inquire about a start value at the 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships, he/she must use a prepared inquiry form. The form must be typed and filled out completely prior to submission. Coaches may use the form included as Attachment E - or they may use their own form. However, the following information must be included: The athlete’s entire routine must be recorded – typed (may include written update during the competition) The difficulty value of each skill must be shown The Element Group of each skill must be shown Any connection bonus must be shown The total number of counting A, B, C, D, E, F and G elements in the exercise The total difficulty value, total element group value, and final start value for the exercise must be shown. 2 I. Additional Items: Additional Matting: Horizontal Bar - athletes will be allowed the use of up to 8 inches of additional matting for release moves only (not allowed for dismounts). Special Note: As per FIG Code of Points (GAM 2013 v2) only the 20 cm base mat will be allowed at the Still Rings. An additional 10 cm mat placed on top of the 20 cm mat is no longer allowed. J. Coach's professional attire on competition floor - violators may be asked to leave the floor. 1. Closed toe shoes, no sandals 2. Slacks, warm-up pants or hemmed shorts (no denim and no cargo type pants or shorts will be allowed) 3. Collared shirts 4. No hats K. Jury of Appeals: The Jury of Appeals will oversee the conduct of the competition. Any protests to the Jury of Appeals must be submitted as soon as possible following any incident and not later than five (5) minutes following the final competitor. The Jury of Appeals will review the situation to insure that proper procedure and protocol were followed. The Jury of Appeals will be made up of the Chairman of the MPC, an Athlete’s Representative and the Men’s Program Director. In the event of an absence by one of the jury members, the MPC will designate a replacement member. Vault Numbers Men’s vault numbers must be shown prior to each vault. Flash boards for vault numbers will be provided at the end of the runway. Equipment Equipment for training, warm-up and competition will be American Athletic, Inc. Meetings A. Coaches Technical Meeting - A meeting will be conducted on Tuesday August 13, at 8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel to cover the general details of the competition and the event schedule. All coaches should attend this meeting. B. Judges Technical Meeting - The judges technical meetings will be held: Friday August 16: 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM Friday August 16: 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM Sunday August 18: 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM Sunday August 18: 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM C. National Team Meeting – There will be a mandatory meeting for all Junior and Senior National Team athletes and their coaches conducted on Monday August 19, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Hilton Hotel. Mandatory National Team competitive apparel sizing will immediately follow the team meeting at the Hilton, Room TBD. Submission of New Elements A. Any new elements, unusual difficulty, unknown difficulty or combinations that are being performed at the 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships must be submitted to Butch Zunich, Technical Director, by the conclusion of the Coaches Technical Meeting on Tuesday August 13. Please use the form Attachment D in this packet. B. New elements will be evaluated at the Judges’ Meeting on Friday August 16. Training Information A. Please refer to the Event Schedule for times. B. All training sessions will be open (not timed). Please respect the use of equipment by limiting your time on the equipment to two minutes per turn.
