We hope that you all had an exciting fun-filled summer. Despite the scorching hot temperatures, our public library has been alive with summer reading. “A Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Program has ​ encouraged our children to continue their love for reading. We are enthusiastic and motivated as we welcome those who have been a part of our Anderson Creek family for many years. We extend a warm welcome to those who are new to our school family. We want our parents and guardians to know that Anderson Creek Primary School is a wonderful place to leave your child(ren) each day. We will continue to work together as a collaborative team to provide your child(ren) a superior instructional program which will result in high student achievement and performance. Our school is committed to providing high quality daily instruction and we believe in meeting the needs of the total child. Together we will work in a positive manner to achieve excellence in the social, emotional, physical and intellectual areas of each child’s life. The purpose of this handbook is to acquaint you and your family with some of our rules and policies. ANDERSON CREEK'S MISSION We, the staff of Anderson Creek Primary School, believe that every child can learn. It is the responsibility of our school to provide best practices and quality differentiated instructional programs that ensure student success in all core curriculum subject areas, technological proficiency, and character development. We believe that parents, grandparents, and guardians are essential to building st the overall educational foundation of each child. Together, we can prepare our children to become diverse 21 ​ Century learners and ​ leaders. st Our School Improvement Plan for 2019-2020 focuses on two main goals that will prepare our students for success in the 21 ​ century. ​ ​ ​ They are summarized here and the entire plan is available at the Harnett County Schools website: www.harnett.k12.nc.us ​ 1. Increase student achievement in operations and algebraic thinking based upon comparison of baseline and year end performance assessments. 2. Ensure implementation and delivery of Common Core and Essential standards by creating rigorous and relevant st instructional opportunities and integrating creative and critical 21 ​ century problem solving skills ​ Contents School Policies School Procedures Calendar Bus Information Health Nutrition Home/School Partnership Harnett County Policies Parent/Student Acknowledgement School Policies ATTENDANCE POLICY Please make sure your child is in school everyday, unless they are unable to attend for one of the following reasons: ▪ Illness or injury ▪ Quarantine or contagious disease ▪ Death in the immediate family ▪ Medical or dental appointment ▪ Court or administrative procedures ▪ Religious observances ▪ Educational opportunity – approval must be granted by the principal prior to absence ​ ​ Absences for all other reasons are unlawful or unexcused. Keeping your child home unnecessarily prevents him/her from being ​ successful in school and is a violation of the Compulsory Attendance Law. If your child is absent, a note must be sent to the teacher when he/she returns, informing us of the reason for the absence. Please do not call the school to report an absence unless the child is hospitalized or seriously ill. After 10 days absence for illness, a doctor's note will be required upon your child's return to school. PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW STATEMENT As required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), information is available at our school to include but is not limited to the following: ● The School Improvement Plan+ ● Qualifications of your child’s teacher ● Professional development opportunities for teachers and assistants to ensure highly qualified personnel ● Opportunities for parent involvement and input ● The Harnett County Schools Improvement Plan ● The Harnett County Title I Parent Involvement Plan and School Parent Involvement Plan ● Harnett County System Report Card Teacher qualification information is available on request. HOW CAN I BE A LEADER AT ACPS? Just follow these 7 Habits and you will be a Cub Leader! HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE Car Rider Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to walk quietly and safely into the school building. I choose to wait patiently and quietly. I choose to keep my hands, feet, and objects to myself. Bus Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to keep my hands, feet, and objects to myself. I choose to keep my area on the bus clean. I choose to follow safety procedures when walking to and from the bus. Hallway: I choose to walk silently and in the correct row to my destination. I choose to follow rules in the hallway, even when no one is looking. Bathroom: I choose to follow bathroom rules when I go to the bathroom. Cafeteria: I choose to take initiative and keep my area clean. I choose to dispose of my trash in an orderly and safe manner. Playground: I choose to use playground equipment in a safe manner. I choose to follow playground safety rules. HABIT 2: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND Car Rider Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to arrive at school on time with my needed materials to help me be a successful learner. I choose to have a sunny day with a positive attitude to help me to be a successful learner. Bus Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to be at my bus stop on time with my needed materials to help me be a successful learner. I choose to have a sunny day with a positive attitude that will help me to be a successful learner. I choose to follow safety procedures while entering, exiting, and riding on the bus to ensure a safe trip to and from school. Hallway: I choose to follow hallway rules so everyone can learn. Bathroom: I choose to follow bathroom rules to help keep a clean, safe environment. Cafeteria: I choose to get everything I need for eating my meal before exiting the serving line. Playground: HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST Car Rider Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to go to my intended destination without detours. Bus Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to go to my intended destinations without detours. Hallway: I choose to go to my intended destination without detours. Bathroom: I choose use the bathroom in a timely manner. Cafeteria: I choose to eat my healthy foods first and then my sweets. I choose to eat my lunch before talking with my friends. Playground: I choose to say no to things that are against playground rules. I choose to report accidents, inappropriate behavior, and dangerous situations to a teacher or a trusted adult so that an adult can assist in the situation. HABIT 4: THINK WIN-WIN Car Rider Arrival/Dismissal: I choose to have all of my school items in hand for when it is my turn to get out of the car in the morning. I choose to be ready to exit the car, with a positive attitude, in order for the car rider line to move along efficiently. I choose to wait patiently and quietly, with my car rider pass ready for my name to be called.
