SHUHWAY SEPTEMBER 30, 1972 (202) 333-6760 #9-77 EXCERPTS FROM REMARKS PREPARED FOR DELIVERY BY CLARK MacGREGOR, CAMPAIGN DI RECTOR COMMITTEE FOR THE RE- ELECT ION OF THE PRESIDENT AT AN AFTERNOON MEET ING OF THE CAL I FORNIA REPUBLICAN STATE CENTRAL cm~ I TTEE ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, SEPTEMBER 30 , 1 972 Whatever credibility Senator McGovern may once have enjoyed is fast being undermined by the exposure of his r hetorical amb i g uities and substantive r e versals. A sure vote-loser for McGovern i s his repeated t actic of l~nking t he policies of President Ni xon to those of Adolf Hitler. And he is constantly backing and filling i n political desperation. Senator McGovern has proposed three di fferent welfare schemes. In fact, his welfare position is getting more and more l ike the House That Jack Built. The Senator started with a proposal to change the welfare syst em. He has now come forward with a scheme t o replace hi s plan, to revise his proposal to change the welfare system. I fear that t omorrow we wil l see a sugges tion to amend his s cheme , to replace his plan to revise his proposal to change the welfare system. (m ore) CLARK MacGREGOR 2 2 2 2 J ust the cost of tracking and ana lyzing his proposals would, at this rate, be sufficient in i tself to require a t ax i ncrease. Again, the cha rac ~e r is ti cs of the President' s leadership present a dramatic contrast. The President has given constant attention to the imp l ementation of his s t rategies rather than doctoring rhetoric or substance simply to gain poli tic&l appeal. Despi te the handicap of an obstructive Congress, President Nixon's achievements have been extraordinary. *** News from o the Committee for the Re-election of the President 1701 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, N.W., WASHINGTON, D.C. 20006 (202) 333-0920 ,,- , " '.
