Rothermere American Institute 1a South Parks Road Oxford, OX1 3UB U.K. FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN OXFORD The Rothermere American Institute is a centre for interdisciplinary research in the fields of American politics, history, literature and culture and is based at the University of Oxford. It houses the Vere Harmsworth Library, with specialist collections of American materials. Details of Fellowships The RAI is now accepting applications for the following fellowships: 1. Senior Visiting Fellow, Sept 2010 – August 2011 2. Visiting Fellow, September – December (Michaelmas Term) 2010 3. Visiting Fellow, January - April (Hilary Term) 2011 4. Visiting Fellow May – August (Trinity Term) 2011 Each fellow is provided with a fully equipped, modern and efficient office with views of Mansfield College right in the heart of Oxford. In addition, every fellow has access to the University of Oxford’s Bodleian and other libraries. No stipends are offered but the RAI provides each Fellow with a £200 travel grant per term for research purposes. Senior Fellows have the opportunity to become members of the Senior Common Room of one of Oxford’s colleges, enabling them to network with scholars from all over the University. The RAI pays up to £80 a month towards Senior Fellows’ college dining costs. Fellows are expected to be resident in Oxford for an average of three days a week during term time. How to apply There is no application form. Instead, applicants should write a letter giving academic affiliation (if any); the post applied for and dates of the proposed visit; two academic references; and the financial support upon which the applicant will rely during her or his stay (giving details of any research grants applied for if applicable). The core of the application should comprise a short account of the research project, which should identify the subject; its importance; the research question; and the broader intellectual significance of the research question.
