2012 Summer Symposium, presented by Faculty Biographies Division Coordinators and Educational Consultants Mark Buselli Jazz Band Division Coordinator Mark Buselli is Director of Jazz Studies at Ball State University. Awards include a 2010-2011 BSU College of Fine Arts Dean’s Creative Arts Award, a Creative Renewal grant from the Indianapolis Arts Council in 2005, a teacher of the year award in 2004 at Butler University, a Creative Vision award from NUVO in May of 2007, a top 10 CD release of 2009 (December 2009) in JAZZIZ magazine for “An Old Soul,” and a top 100 CD of the decade (January 2010) in DownBeat magazine for the Buselli/Wallarab release of “Basically Baker.” Mr. Buselli has over 40 arrangements published for big bands, brass ensemble and piano/trumpet. He has nine recordings out as a leader on the Owlstudios and OA2 record labels. He has written/arranged/performed for numerous artists.Mr. Buselli currently serves as Education Director of the Buselli Wallarab Jazz Orchestra/Midcoast Swing Orchestra in Indianapolis, where he has created numerous educational opportunities for over 10,000 students. Mr. Buselli graduated from the Berklee School of Music in Boston and received his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Indiana University. Thomas Caneva Concert Band Division Coordinator Dr. Thomas Caneva is Director of Bands, Professor of Music and Coordinator of Ensembles and Conducting at Ball State University. At Ball State, Dr. Caneva’s responsibilities include conducting the Wind Ensemble, coordinating the graduate wind conducting program, teaching undergraduate conducting and administering the entire band program. Under his direction, the Ball State University Wind Ensemble has performed at CBDNA Regional and National Conferences, the American Bandmasters Association Convention, and state and regional MENC conventions. Additional conducting appearances have included university, public school and community bands as well as wind ensembles at district, regional and all-state events. In 2001, Dr. Caneva was elected to membership in the American Bandmasters Association. He is currently the North Central Division Chair of NBA and Indiana State Chair of CBDNA. He holds degrees from the University of Illinois, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Colorado at Boulder. William Galvin Music for All Educational Consultant William Galvin served as the Music Department Chair for the Trinity Area School District until his retirement in 2009. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morehead (Kentucky) State University and Master of Music Education degree from Duquesne University. Mr. Galvin has been awarded the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence. He is a recipient of the Citation of Excellence, presented by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Mr. Galvin has been cited as an Outstanding Young Educator in America and has been listed in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers.” He is a member of the National Band Association, National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC), Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Blue Key National Honor Fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha. In addition to being an educational consultant for Music for All, Mr. Galvin is the coordinator of the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival and on the board of the Washington (Pennsylvania) Symphony Orchestra. He previously served as the president of the Washington County Music Educators Association, a past PMEA District President and a former chair of the PMEA Music Booster Affiliate. Fran Kick Leadership Division Coordinator Fran Kick is an author, educational consultant and professional speaker who knows What Makes Kids KICK! He is the creator and presenter of KICK IT IN®, a series of self-motivational personal leadership presentations and materials. Since taking an educational leave of absence from teaching band at Centerville High School (Ohio), he has developed his part-time speaking adventure into a full-time mission. Today, Mr. Kick presents programs across the U.S. and Canada to thousands of college/university, high school, junior high/middle school students, plus the many people who work with them. In addition, he works with association, convention and corporate organizations who are actively engaged in teaching and reaching today’s kids. Mr. Kick speaks at many state, regional and national conferences about What Makes Kids KICK and how they can KICK IT IN AND TAKE THE LEAD. He has his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology. Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser Senior Educational Advisor, Music for All Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser is a trusted friend to anyone interested in working with young people in developing a desire for excellence and a passion for high-level achievement. His career involves 10 years of successful college band directing at Northern Michigan University, the University of Missouri and New Mexico State University. Following his tenure at the university level, he spent three years with McCormick’s Enterprises working as Executive Director of Bands of America prior to BOA’s separation from its founding parent company to become a non-profit organization (in 1984). In 1981, Dr. Lautzenheiser created Attitude Concepts for Today, Inc., an organization designed to manage the many requests for workshops, seminars and convention speaking engagements focusing on the area of positive attitude and effective leadership training. Over two million students have experienced his acclaimed student leadership workshops over the last three decades. Dr. Tim is in Music for All’s Bands of America Hall of Fame. Gary Markham Senior Educational Consultant, Music for All; Camp Director, Music for All Summer Symposium Gary Markham is currently the Supervisor of Music for the Cobb County Public Schools. He is the former Director of Bands at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax County, Virginia. He serves nationally as clinician, guest conductor, adjudicator and consultant. Mr. Markham received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mansfield State University, Master of Education degree from Penn State University and studied for a doctorate in conducting and music supervision at George Mason University with Anthony Maiello and Col. Arnald Gabriel. He is currently the Senior Educational Consultant for Music for All and Chief Judge for Bands of America, Judge Education Director for Drum Corps International and an author of “Band Expressions,” published by Alfred Music. He is a 1992 recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s “Sudler Order of Merit,” and the Robinson Symphonic Band is the 1992 recipient of the “Sudler Flag of Honor.” He is in Music for All’s Bands of America Hall of Fame. Michael McIntosh National Percussion Symposium Coordinator, Sponsored by Yamaha Corporation of America Mr. McIntosh is a graduate of Butler University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in Composition. In addition to freelance composing and digital sound design, Mr. McIntosh is on the creative team and also one of two percussion designers and arrangers for The Cavaliers drum and bugle corps. Since 1997, he has been a percussion specialist at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana. As of 2012, Mr. McIntosh will be the designer for the Gateway Indoor Independent World percussion ensemble. He is a Yamaha artist/clinician, and he also endorses other music industry members. Compositionally, Mr. McIntosh has had works commissioned for the Midwest Band Directors Convention as well as the West Point HellCats. He is an active clinician teaching clinics throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. He recently performed several clinics in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. McIntosh and his wife Joy, a Physician Assistant, have just recently completed a move to Albert Lea, Minnesota. Larry Rebillot Color Guard Division Coordinator Larry Rebillot brings 38 years of experience as a designer, teacher and performer in the arts. Presently, Mr. Rebillot is the Color Guard Coordinator for the University of Cincinnati Bearcat Bands as well as a freelance color guard choreographer & visual consultant for many pageantry organizations around the world. 2012 marks his 26th year as a clinician and 15th year as Color Guard Coordinator at Music for All’s Summer Symposium. His recent résumé includes Western Carolina University, North Carolina, which was the 2009 Sudler Trophy winner honoring America’s finest college marching band, a 2011 Pasadena Tournament of Roses® participant and voted Best Band, Calgary Stampede Showband, Canada; 2009 World Music Contest (Holland) Gold medalist, a 2012 Rose Parade® participant; as well as numerous high school, college and independent pageantry groups throughout the US, Canada and Australia. A graduate of Morehead State University (Kentucky) with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Mr. Rebilott taught at Gray Middle School, Boone County Schools, Kentucky. He spent five seasons as a company member of the Canton Ballet in Ohio; has performed, choreographed and directed in regional and school theater productions; and has consulted with the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music’s theater department. Mr. Rebillot is presently a board member of the TriState Pageantry Circuit and was honored as an inaugural member of the circuit’s Hall of Fame in 2006. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, National Dance Education Organization, Tri State Judges Association, Bluecoat Alumni and Bridgemen Alumni Associations, and a member
