US House Votes to Eliminate Property Tax Deduction

U.S. House Votes to Eliminate Property Tax Deduction The GOP-Trump budget would be a nightmare for the country, ballooning the deficit, and giving tax cuts to businesses with billions of dollars stashed offshore, but for New Jersey the plan to eliminate the property tax deduction is catastrophic. Approximately 1 in 4 Garden State taxpayers would pay an average of $2,400 more in a year in federal taxes, while New Jersey’s wealthiest 1 percent of taxpayers would receive an average $74,000 tax break each year. While this fight is not over yet, the 216-212 House vote moves the plan one step closer to being realized. We thank all those lawmakers who voted against the budget, which includes every Democrat nationally and all Democratic members of the New Jersey House Delegation. Of the 20 House Republicans who opposed the plan, four were from New Jersey. The lone vote in favor of the budget was Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11).
