REID, III UPERVISOR ARLAA EID S M ’ R [4] THIRD EPISCOPAL DISTRICT BUSINESS AS USUAL IS NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams. (Genesis 37: 20). The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10: 10.) I beseech you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God that; that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12: 1-2). As we begin the Third District series of Annual Conferences, we pause to remember the exemplary Christian service and legacy of Bishop McKinley Young and his extraordinary wife, Supervisor Dorothy Young. He’s was the servant Bishop for 6 months of the 2018-19 Annual Conference Year. Bishop Young now rests from his earthly assign- ment and his great works follow him. Well done good and faithful servant of Jesus Christ our Lord! The theme for this Annual Conference Year is: ARE YOU A DREAM BUILDER OR A DREAM KILLER?: DON’T COUNT GOD OUT! During this year, the Third District and each Annual Conference has faced the devastating challenges of the thief who comes to steal to kill and destroy. [5] THIRD EPISCOPAL DISTRICT From the death of Bishop Young to the storms that destroyed homes and entire communities, to the recent mass murder and shootings in downtown Dayton, Ohio, the thief has tried to steal, kill and destroy the dreams of the transforming Third Episcopal District. The third verse from the Charles Wesley hymn says: WHAT TROUBLES HAVE WE SEEN, WHAT MIGHTY CONFLICTS PAST, FIGHTING’S WITHOUT, AND FEARS WITHIN, SINCE WE ASSEMBLED LAST! Sadly, we must admit that all the fighting has not only been without. The thief has slipped into our District, churches and even some people to try and destroy God’s Kingdom Agenda of a faithful, focused and free people and Third Episcopal District. Thus the relevant question is: ARE YOU A DREAM BUILDER OR A DREAM KILLER? Every Annual Conference, every Presiding Elders District, every Pastor Church and delegate will answer this question by their reports and their actions at the Annual Conference. What is the purpose of an Annual Conference? 1) To report and praise God for the work our Lord did through us last Annual Conference Year. 2) To encourage, equip and empower the servant leaders of the churches and people to do greater works in the upcoming year. 3) To bring revival, restoration and renewal to all of the members of the Annual Conference and the city or region where the Conference is held. [6] THIRD EPISCOPAL DISTRICT 4) To rebuke the DREAM KILLER SPIRIT and fight the good fight of faith for God’s DREAM BUILDERS AGENDA for every church and community. 5) To embrace the love of God that will grow God’s church, heal our wounds and liberate us to do the GREATER WORKS Of Jesus Christ. 6) To activate the Nehemiah anointing and agenda so we go back to our church assignments with BIG goals and action plans that only the power of the Holy Spirit can prepare us to achieve. Finally, remember, BUSINESS AS USUAL IS NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE! God is calling the Third District to go on to higher ground. We must move from doing AME Church business to doing the Kingdom business of the church. This will require us to: 1) Focus on the will of God. 2) Find and follow the will of God through prayer. 3) Live by faith. 4) Receive a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit for the work of the 2019-20 Annual Conference.
