List of Declared Animals – South Australia The primary mechanism for the management of introduced (exotic) animals in South Australia is the Natural Resources Management Act 2004 through the List of Declared Animals. You do not need a permit to keep, move or sell most introduced birds that are commonly kept in aviculture. However, there are still some birds that are prohibited in South Australia unless you have a permit. Listed below are the classes from the List of Declared Animals that relate to birds. If your bird is not listed in Class 4 (and is not a starling west of Ceduna) it defaults to Class 1 and you will need a permit. It is illegal to release any introduced bird.
