Divided into four main sections, one for each family of instruments, this guide explores basic elements and principles of music through active listening and inquiry Adventures Into Sound while introducing the instrument families of the orchestra. Each section explores concepts that will be addressed in the corresponding concert. We have designed 1. full orchestra – Debussy’s “Golliwog’s Cake Walk” from Children’s Corner Suite the lessons to be adaptable to the time and materials available in your classroom 2. strings – excerpt, Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Finale setting, providing groups of activities that can be best explored over the course of 3. low pitched sounds – excerpt, Gliere’s Russian Sailor Dance several days for up to 15 minutes per class.
