VAITTIANADANE DIRECTOR Puducherry June, 2015 AN OVERVIEW OF PUDUCHERRY *** The Union Territory of Puducherry is extending over an area of 490 Sq.Kms. according to 2011 Census comprising of four regions viz., Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. The U.T of Puducherry consists of two revenue districts viz., Puducherry District comprising of Puducherry, Mahe and Yanam regions and Karaikal District comprising of Karaikal region. There are 5 Municipalities and 10 Commune Panchayats. Total population of the U.T is 12, 47,953 as per 2011 Census. According to SRS Bulletin ( Sept 2014), the Birth, Death and Infant mortality rates of Union Territory of Puducherry have been estimated at 15.7, 7.0 and17 respectively. The estimated Adult (15-49 years) HIV prevalence in the UT of Puducherry was at 0.15% which is far below when compared to All India figure of 0.27%. The HIV prevalence in respect of Anti Natal Care (ANC) has come down to 0% in the U.T of Puducherry, according to Sentinel Surveillance 2012-13. The total area under all crops during 2013-14 was 25247 Hectares and the production of food grains, rice and sugarcane was in the order of 49898, 49782, and 304066 tonnes respectively. Similarly, the Milk and Egg production under Animal Husbandry sector has been worked out to 47635 MTs and 113.33 lakhs respectively during 2014-15. The Advanced Estimates of the Gross State Domestic Product of Puducherry in 2014-15 with base year 2004-05 has been worked out to ` 25819.35 Crores at Current Prices. The Per Capita income for the year 2014-15 (AE) has been estimated at ` 175006/- at Current Prices. The Consumer Price Index for Industrial workers of the Union Territory of Puducherry stands at 260 during March 2015 revealing that there exists increasing trend of prices in the Union Territory.
