Don Cherry has an interesting nickname. His nickname is “grapes”, nobody knows who invented the nickname. Don got the nickname “grapes” in his days in the minors. He got the nickname because they believe he is a valuable player. At the time he was playing for the Trois-Rivieres Lions, in the season of 1959-1960. Don Cherry does have a very unique nickname. It is pretty cool how Don Cherry has been given an unordinary nickname. Don Cherry also has some reasons why his nickname is grapes because people think because he’s a fruit/cherry he should be named grapes. Some people predict his nickname is grapes because he has now made a new show, the grapevine. Don Cherry’s Fame Don Cherry used to and still is famous within the hockey world. He has both played hockey and coached hockey. He no longer plays hockey, he just talks about it. He is also Famous for his shows such as Keep your head up kid and Coaches corner. Don Cherry’s Suits Don Cherry has a lot of different suits. But he doesn’t have a favourite. Don Cherry had two tailors who custom make his suits. He has a different suit for every occasion and event. With his suit he wears a poppy to respect the fallen soldiers in the war and a rose to remember his wife that had passed away in 1997. He always wears a poppy in his episodes. Don Cherry has a lot of suits. But, how many does he have? ……… go on guess. Estimate 7x4x6=168 suits per NHL season. Don Cherry has so many suits that every closet in his house is filled. He said that he has two rooms that are also filled with more suits. The man that custom makes his suits now is John Carallo of the Cook Ink in Toronto. The man that used to custom make his suits is Frank Cosco of Mississauga. Don Cherry also has apparently put suits on his dog Blue. No one knows what he does with his suits when he is done wearing them. I think that Don Cherry has a lot of cool, funny and unique suits. It’s cool how Don Cherry has Jerseys that teams wear that look like one of his suits. The Broncos wore a jersey that looked like a suit to help promote organ donation. Don Cherry has a lot of excellent suits, maybe, you could wear suits like him too. Don Cherry Fired!?!? Don Cherry got fired. But there is a reason for why he got fired. Some people believe he was being racist in their opinion. But some people don’t agree that he was being rude/racist. He got fired last year. There are still arguments about Don Cherry being fired but Sportsnet does not want to hire him again. Don Cherry now has a new show called ‘ Don Cherry’s Grapevine podcast’, which aired its first episode on Tuesday, November 18th 2019. It is co-hosted by his son Tim Cherry. It is on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Podcast. The show was made after Don Cherry was fired from SportsNet and Hockey Night In Canada. You might be asking yourself why. Well, here’s why Don Cherry said “People in Toronto are being disrespectful by not wearing poppies to honor Canada’s fallen military heroes leading up to Remembrance Day… These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in”. So then Don Cherry got fired by SportsNet. He got fired on November 9 th, 2019. Don Cherry’s Dog If you didn’t know that Don Cherry had a dog, well you do now. Don Cherry's dog’s name is Blue. Usually, when Don Cherry goes to a different province, city, country or area he brings his fantastic dog Blue. Ron Maclean and Don Cherry on Coach’s Corner Don Cherry joined Hockey Night in Canada in 1980 as a playoff analyst and was so popular that he was kept on as a commentator. CBC later created “Coach’s Corner” as a way to showcase Cherry, with Maclean eventually replacing Dave Hodge as Cherry’s sidekick. They Talked about general and special interest stories on the show. During the final broadcast of the 2017-2018 NHL regular season, Coach’s Corner was devoted to the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, which Cherry described as a “national nightmare”. Don Cherry is no longer friends with Ron Maclean since the problem on Hockey Night In Canada. And sadly now Don Cherry’s old sidekick (Ron Maclean) said that Hockey Night In Canada is no longer going to be a show. Now Don Cherry has a new show without Ron Maclean.
