Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings), making all games worth three (3) points. The 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts only affect conference standings, while the game is officially a tie for NCAA purposes. UpComiNg gameS NCHC FaCts aNd Figures Friday, Oct. 18 • Six NCHC teams are in action this weekend, all facing non-conference Omaha at No. 12/13 Ohio State, 7:00 p.m. ET competition. Four NCHC teams take on top-20 opponents and three of Ferris State at Miami, 7:05 p.m. ET those four are match-ups between top-20 teams, including a top-10 No. 14/15 Western Michigan at Bowling Green, 7:07 p.m. ET showdown in Denver between No. 6/6 Boston College and top-ranked No. 3/2 Minnesota Duluth at No. 17 Wisconsin, 7:00 p.m. CT Denver, with those two a combined 6-0-0. Three NCHC teams face WCHA TV: FOX Sports North PLUS/ FOX College Sports Atlantic foes this weekend (Miami, North Dakota and Western Michigan), while No. 16 North Dakota at No. 2/3 Minnesota State, 7:07 p.m. CT Minnesota Duluth and Omaha battle Big Ten teams. The NCHC is off to an No. 6/6 Boston College at No. 1/1 Denver, 7:07 p.m. MT 11-4-4 start in non-conference play this season, with the early .684 win percentage tops among the six Division I men’s hockey conferences. The Saturday, Oct. 19 NCHC has posted the best combined non-conference winning percentage Omaha at No. 12/13 Ohio State, 5:00 p.m. ET in four of the last five seasons, including last year at .659. (page 9) Bowling Green at No. 14/15 Western Michigan, 7:05 p.m. ET • Five of the six non-conference series involving NCHC teams this No. 16 North Dakota at No. 2/3 Minnesota State, 6:07 p.m. CT weekend are match-ups between former conference foes. The lone series Ferris State at Miami, 8:00 p.m. ET that is not is Boston College at Denver. Three of the series pit former No. 3/2 Minnesota Duluth at No. 17 Wisconsin, 7:00 p.m. CT CCHA opponents as Omaha heads to Ohio State, Miami hosts Ferris State TV: FOX Sports North PLUS/FOX College Sports Pacific and Western Michigan and Bowling Green play a home-and-home series, No. 6/6 Boston College at No. 1/1 Denver, 7:07 p.m. MT after WMU also beat BGSU last Saturday at the Ice Breaker Tournament. LaSt Week’S ResultS • Four NCHC teams remain ranked in the top 15 of both national polls, Friday, Oct. 11 while five NCHC teams are ranked in the USCHO.com Poll, with CC and ^No. 14/12 Western Michigan 2, No. 12/14 Ohio State 2 (OT/OSU wins SO) Omaha both receiving votes. There’s a new No. 1 in both polls as Denver New Hampshire 6, at Miami 2 takes over the top spot from Minnesota Duluth after UMD split last No. 2/2 Denver 3, at Lake Superior State 1 weekend. Even with a new No. 1, with Denver taking the top spot, an at Omaha 6, Alabama Huntsville 1 NCHC team has still now been ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Poll in 63 No. 7/8 St. Cloud State 4, at Bemidji State 4 (OT) of the last 75 weeks dating back to the start of the 2016-17 season. Half UMass Lowell 3, at No. 1/1 Minnesota Duluth 2 of the NCHC teams have held the No. 1 spot during that span (Denver, at No. 18 North Dakota 5, Canisius 0 UMD, North Dakota and St. Cloud State), while the NCHC is home to the at Colorado College 3, Minnesota 2 last four NCAA National Champions. UMD fell to No. 3 in the USCHO Poll and No. 2 in the USA Hockey Magazine Poll, while SCSU and Western Saturday, Oct. 12 Michigan are also ranked in each. UND is only ranked in the USCHO.com ^No. 14/12 Western Michigan 5, No. 17 Bowling Green 2 Poll. (page 9) New Hampshire 4, at Miami 4 (OT) • Two NCHC teams are off to a strong start on special teams. Through four No. 2/2 Denver 4, at Lake Superior State 3 games, Denver is a perfect 18-for-18 on the penalty kill, one of 12 teams at Omaha 5, Alabama Huntsville 0 nationally with a perfect penalty kill so far, but the 18 kills are five more No. 7/8 St. Cloud State 2, at Bemidji State 2 (OT) than any of the other 11 teams with a perfect PK. DU is also the lone at No. 1/1 Minnesota Duluth 2, UMass Lowell 1 team with four wins in NCAA men’s hockey so far.
