BINGIn the Stanford MUSIC Hospital SERIES Atrium february 2017 WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 1, 12:30 MIKE MAROTTA BAND — Italian Music Mike Marotta is a well-known accordion player, his musical roots stem from from his Italian-American family with generations going back to Monterey, California. Vocalist Orazio Aiello came to California as a young man from Palermo, Sicily. Violinist Dave Dally came to America as a young boy from Switzerland. Bassist Steve Hanson lived in Naples Italy for three years. This international group of excellent musicians will do a mix of Andrea Bocelli songs, along with Italian traditional and pop songs. FRIDAY FEBRUARY 3, 12:30 K & H DUO — Classical Piano and Violin Violinist Chih-Jung Hsu and pianist Wen-Chun Ku are frequent collaborators as the K & H Duo, having per- formed in recitals and concerts in California and Maryland. The duo is defined by its pursuit of the subtlety, honesty, and passion as musicians for the classical genre. This program will feature works of the Romantic era by Beethoven, Liszt, and Ravel. WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 8, 12:30 VINTAGE JUKEBOX — Swing-Era Standards Vintage Jukebox is a one-of-a-kind swing era band comprised of some of the best musicians in the Bay Area. The band, fronted by vocalists Laurent Fourgo & Rebecca Miller, will be performing Standards from the Great American Song Book made famous by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, SarahVaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Arm- strong and others. FRIDAY FEBRUARY 10, 12:30 DAVE ROCHA — Jazz Classics Dave Rocha’s playing of the trumpet is truly masterful. His many years of study, practice and performance are evident in every concert. He has a beautiful, clear tone and his playing is athletic and precise. Dave brings American Jazz standards to life on one of the most diffcult of all instruments. He plays with style, elegance, humor and intelligence and is one of the Bay Area’s in-demand top musicians. WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 15, 12:30 FOOLS ON THE HILL — Music of the Beatles The music of the Beatles transcends all generations and is just as powerful and relevant as it was over 50 years ago! Mike Wollenberg started playing guitar when he was eight years old due in large part to his hearing the Beatles. Multi-instrumentalist Steve Hanson says the music of the Beatles still inspires him and his appre- ciation for what they did continues to grow. FRIDAY FEBRUARY 17, 12:30 LAUDAMI ENSEMBLE — Bach to Italy–Classical Music Experience the wildly dazzling improvisational displays of Baroque Italy and see how they influenced the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Violinist Laura Rubinstein-Salzedo and harpsichordist Michael Peterson join forces to showcase masters of the Italian style. After journeying through works from seventeenth-century Italy and Germany, they will conclude with one of Bach’s finest violin sonatas. WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 22, 12:30 STRING SUMMIT — Western Swing Take a trip back in time when Spade Cooley, Sons of the Pioneers, Bob Wills, and other greats were putting an infectious rhythm to country music. When sawdust was spread on the dance floor and hay bales were the house seats. String Summit brings you this music as it was meant to be played with mandolin, fiddle, steel guitar, acoustic bass and guitar. FRIDAY FEBRUARY 24, 12:30 3 BIG MACS AND A SMALL FRY — Caribbean Music with Steel Drum Steel Pan master Tim Gutierrez brings his quartet to the Bay Area for a melodic trip to Argentina,Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba and Trinidad. This music is a perfect match for the Bing Music Series with its melodic instrumen- tation and Caribbean-flavored tunes.
