Its goal is to open up discussion with the public concerning conservative ideas. Its main activities are focused on social debates with independent experts, cooperation with TOP 09 expert committees, fundraising, presentation of alternative views on the work of public authorities and preparation of analytical and conceptual policy documents suggesting alternative answers. Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a German political foundation closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Its main principles are freedom, justice and solidarity. The goal of KAS is to support Christian-Democratic values in politics and society, foster democracy and rule of law, support European integration and intensify transatlantic and development cooperation. The Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies (WMCES) was established in 2007 as the political foundation and official think tank of the European People’s Party (EPP). The Martens Centre has four main goals: advancing centre-right thought, contributing to the formulation of EU and national policies, serving as a framework for national political foundations and academics and stimulating public debate about the EU. It promotes a pan-European mind-set based on centre-right, Christian-Democrat, conservative and like-minded political values. 7 8 Contributors 10 Alena Resl. Graduated from Politics and International Relations at Charles University in Prague and European Studies at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universtität in Bonn. Civic education has been her professional interest for the last fourteen years. She has worked at the Association for International Affairs, the think tank European Values and the Office of the Government of Czechia. She is currently working for Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. She gives lectures on civic education in Germany and the Department of Civics, in the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University. Jaroslav Poláček. Graduated from journalism and mass communication at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, Prague. He worked for KDU-ČSL from 2001 to 2009. He chaired an expert committee on information and communication technologies, and later the newly established analytical department. He has managed national election campaigns since 2009. He has worked with TOP 09 since 2009 as deputy secretary general. He published several articles on information technologies and co-authored the books Internet nejen pro historiky [The Internet, Not Only for Historians] and Mezinárodní marketing a informační technologie: vybrané kapitoly [International Marketing and Information Technologies: Selected Topics]. He works as senior analyst at TOPAZ. Josef Knot. Graduated from the Law Faculty of West Bohemian University and holds an MBA degree since 2013. After working in a law firm for five years, he worked in the international investment group ARCA Capital, first as finance lawyer and later as an investment manager. He returned to Písek in 2004 and implemented several residential projects there. He was elected deputy there in 2010 and in 2011 was appointed vice mayor. He focused on urban development and grant policies. Kateřina Semotamová. Graduated from Teaching German language and literature for primary schools at the Faculty of Education, at Masaryk University, Brno. She was interested in civic education already as a student and focused on international inspirations when teaching responsible citizenship in Czechia. She is currently working as a primary school teacher and coordinator of school parliament at the Primary School Botanická in Brno. She helps prepare methodological documents for civic education teachers. Klára Kalíšková. Assistant Professor at the University of Economics Prague, researcher at the IDEA think tank, and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. She has a PhD in economics from CERGE-EI, Prague, and her main research interests lie in empirical and policy- oriented research in the fields of labour economics and applied econometrics. She is also a member of the Government Committee for Reconciliation of Work and Family Life, and she actively participates in the evaluation of policy making processes in Czechia with a focus on employment and social impacts. Ladislav Cabada. Associated professor of Political Science and guarantor of Study Programme Political Science (MA, PhD) at the Metropolitan University Prague, and permanent Visiting Scholar at the National University of Public Service in Budapest. He acts also as a co-editor of the scientific reviewPolitics in Central Europe. From 2012–2018, he worked as the President of Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA). His research covers political systems in East-Central Europe, mainly political institutions, actors, political culture a regionalism. Lubor Lacina. Full Professor in Management and economics since 2016. He works at the Department of Finance at Mendel University in Brno. His main areas of interest are monetary integration and Czech EU 11 membership. He edited and co-authored six publications, including Economic Performance of European Union (2008, Palgrave – MacMillan Publishing); Evropská unie: příležitosti, výzvy, rizika (2007) Měnová integrace: náklady a přínosy členství v měnové unii (2007); Rozpočet a politiky Evropské unie (2004); Globalizace, etika, ekonomika (2008); and Evropské křižovatky (2014). He is the Jean Monnet Chair of European Economic Studies as of 2009 and has directed the Mendel European Centre think tank since 2014. Lucie Tungul. Graduated from Miami University, Ohio (International Relations), and Palacky University in Olomouc (Politics and European studies). She worked as assistant professor at Fatih University, Istanbul, and Palacky University, Olomouc. Her areas of interest are European integration with a special focus on Europeanization, democratization, EU decision making processes, Euroscepticism, migration processes and identity discourses.
