The ASME Pressure Vessel and Piping Division is celebrating its fortieth year of operation. This year’s Conference Technical Program contains over 700 technical papers, panel and plenary sessions, tutorials and forums organized into more than 210 technical sessions, tutorials, student paper competition, and workshops. We particularly welcome the Sixth FSI, AE and FIV, and N Symposium. The NDE and Software Demonstration forums are organized as part of our technical program. The PVP Conference is a great place to present your ideas and to meet colleagues as we address the present and future challenges in our industry. Technical papers presented in this Conference are separated into tracks in accordance with their techni- cal areas and published in the Conference proceedings in the form of a CD ROM. The ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Division is sponsoring this Conference jointly with the International Council on Pressure Vessel Technology (ICPVT) in collaboration with the ASME NDE and Pipeline Systems Divisions, and the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers. With participation from the Americas, Canada, Europe, and Asia, we shall truly be able to address current and emerging pressure vessel technologies in a global context. A series of social events will complement the technical program. The Sunday evening cultural event will feature storeis, songs, and dances by the Chinook SongCatchers. The Vancouver City Tour will take place on Monday morning, and the Conference-Wide Reception will be held on Monday evening. On Tuesday, the Majestic North Shore Tour will take you to the Capilano Narrows suspension bridge and a walk among the tree tops of the old growth forest, followed by a ride to the top of Grouse Mountain where you will be entertained by the lumberjack and bird shows, the theatre in the sky, and lots of outdoor fun. The dinner cruise on Wednesday evening will showcase the beautiful Vancouver scenery and will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display. Nuclear reactors have three attributes that are driving renewed interest in nuclear power generation. First, energy costs are generally steady and pre- dictable over long periods owing to the fact that fuel costs are a relatively INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL ON low percentage of the overall cost of nuclear energy production. Therefore, PRESSURE VESSEL TECHNOLOGY even large changes in fuel costs have relatively little impact on the overall The International Council on Pressure Vessel Technology (ICPVT) consists energy costs.
