Update: May 29, 2017 Additional Azaleas and other shrubs that will be available at our 2017 Plant Sale For your convenience we have added additional information about these plants. RIN = Native to Rhode Island ENA = Native to Eastern North America Native Azaleas R. arborescens, Smooth /Sweet Azalea- Deciduous. Sun to light shade. 5-10’, white, early summer, fragrant, ENA R. atlanticum, Coast Azalea - Deciduous. Sun to part sun, 1.5 to 3’, white tinged pinK, mid-May, fragrant, ENA R. austrinum, Early Azalea – Deciduous. Part sun to shade, 5’, orange/yellow, mid-May, fragrant, ENA R. calendulaceum, Flame Azalea – Deciduous. Part sun, 6’, all shades from yellow, orange to red, late May, ENA R. canadense, Rhodora – Deciduous. Part shade unless you have bog conditions. Needs a moist, cool site. 2-3’, lavender-pink to purple (but there is an occasional white form), April-May, Particularly attracts bees, RIN R. canescens, Piedmont azalea, - Deciduous. Sun to part shade, moist, 5’-8', white to pink, mid-May, fragrant, ENA R. cumberlandense, Cumberland azalea - Deciduous. Part shade. Orange to red shades. Blooms several weeKs later than R. calendulaceum. Growth typically low and twiggy. ENA R. flammeum. Oconee azalea – Deciduous. Color range yellow to orange to red. Mid May, ENA R. periclymenoides, PinXterbloom, Pink Azalea –Deciduous. Sun to shade, 6’, white-pink, May, musky fragrance. Particularly attracts butterflies & hummingbirds, RIN R .prinophyllum, Roseshell Azalea, Early Azalea – Deciduous. Sun to part shade, 5’, pinK, May, clove fragrance, RIN R. prunifolium, Plumleaf Azalea – Deciduous. Partial shade, 8’, orange through coral to red, late summer (late July into September, plants will vary), special value to bumblebees, ENA R. vaseyi, PinKshell azalea – Deciduous. Part shade, rich & damp soil, lt. to med pink. Early May. Fragrant, fall color, ENA R. viscosum, Swamp Azalea, Clammy Azalea – Deciduous. Part shade, Grows wild in moist areas, but successful in garden conditions. 6’, white to pinK, late June into July, RIN Other shrubs. Kalmia latifolia, Mountain Laurel - Sun to light shade, 4-10’, white or light pinK, June, Evergreen, RIN Rhododendron carolinianum, Carolina rhododendron - Evergreen small, scaly leaves. Lt. shade, very pale to med. PinK, 3-5’, mid-May, ENA Rhododendron maximum, Rosebay - Part shade, 6-10’, white to pink small flowers in a truss opens after new leaf growth is out, late June-July. Large leaf evergreen rhododendron, RIN Rhododendron minus var. chapmanii, Chapman’s Rhododendron - Small leaf evergreen. Filtered sunlight, 3-5’, pale pink, spring, ENA Zenobia pulverulenta, Honeycups - Deciduous shrub, 3-6’, Part shade, moist, white hanging bells, late May- early June, ENA .
