Class Narrative Class 27-66 A1 17 June 1966 – 15 September 1966 U.S. Army Armor School OCS Class 27-66, Company A1 was the last OCS class at Fort Knox to start their course during fiscal year 1966 which ran from 1 July 1965 to 30 June 1966. It was the 16th OCS class at Fort Knox during the Vietnam War Era, and the fourth and last Ordnance Phase I class. The class started OCS on Friday 17 June 1966 and completed the thirteen week course of instruction on Thursday 15 September 1966. All classes that started OCS after 30 June 1966 were designated Armor branch classes and completed both Phase I and Phase II OCS training at Fort Knox. One-hundred fourteen OC’s were originally in the class and one OC from another class was added. During Phase I twenty-five class members either quit the course or were relieved. Five were recycled to other classes, but it is unknown which one’s as we do not have any information about OCS at Aberdeen Proving Ground where the class was sent for Ordnance branch specific Phase II training. Eighty-five of the 115 completed OCS at Fort Knox and were sent TDY to Aberdeen Proving Ground. There 78 graduated on 21 November 1966 and were commissioned as 2LT’s in the Ordnance Corps. None of the graduates attended flight school. None of the graduates of either Phase I or Phase II were killed in Vietnam, however fifteen of the class have died since their military service. There was no news article in Inside the Turret. The Fort Knox weekly newspaper. 14 September 2018 .
