INFORMATION SERVICES UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA mmwm MISSOULA, MONTANA 59801 Phone (406) 243-2522 IMMEDIATELY cook/jm 7/24/68 local RON B0TTC11LR TO SING AT UM MISSOULA-- Ron Bottcher, leading baritone with the Metropolitan Opera, will present an operatic recital Aug. 4 at 8:15 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall at the University of Mont­ ana, Missoula. Bottcher, a former voice student under John L. Lester at UM, won the Regional Metropolitan Opera auditions in Seattle, Wash, in 1960 when he was 19, becoming the young­ est baritone ever to appear as a national finalist. In 1962 he debuted with the New York City Opera Company. During the past six years, Bottcher has appeared with the San Francisco Opera Company, Santa Fe Opera, Chautauqua Opera and the American Opera Society. He also toured the U. S. and Canada as leading baritone with the Metropolitan Opera National Company during its first season. Next season Bottcher will sing in several cities with the Philadelphia Grand Opera, the New Orleans Opera Co., the Cleveland Orchestra and the Metropolitan. Bottcher, a native of Sandpoint, Idaho, is married to the former Priscilla Lester, daughter of Prof, and Mrs. Lester. Bottcher*s recital, part of UM Summer Session, includes operatic arias from roles he has sung. The admission is $2. ###.
