Lapid RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING FILIPINO FILMMAKER BRILLANTE MENDOZA FOR BAGGING THE PRIX DE LA MISE EN SCENE (BEST DIRECTOR AWARD) AT THE 62NDLE FESTIVAL DE CANNES (THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL) HELD ON 13-24 MAY 2009 AT THE PALAIS DES FESTIVALS ET DES CONGReS, CANNES, FRANCE FOR THE MOVIE “KINATA Y’. WHEREAS, the Philippine Senate has in several occasions paid tribute to outstanding Filipinos for their astonishing feat of bringing home pride and glory to the country by becoming champions in the international scene; WEREAS, Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza made the country proud when he won the Prix de la mise en scene or Best Director award in the recently concluded 62”dle Festival de Cannes at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Cannes, France held last 13-24 May 2009 for the movie entitled Kinafay, besting the likes of celebrated directors Ang Lee, Pedro Almodovar, Lars von Trier, Jane Campion and Quentin Tarantino and other seasoned and established directors from all over the world; WHEREAS, le Festival de Cannes has established itself as one of the world’s oldest, most influential and prestigious film festival; WHEREAS, Brillante Mendoza is the first Filipino to win the Best Director prize in Cannes and he will be joining the list of revered filmmakers who have won the coveted prize, including Martin Scorsese, lngmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Luis Bufiuel, Robert Bresson, Costa Gavras, Bernard Tavernier, Werner Herzog, Robert Altrnan, Joel Coen, Pedro Almodovar and Gus Van San; WHEREAS, the movie Kinafay have made our country proud and have shown to the world the spirit of Filipino ingenuity and excellence; WHEREAS, this achievement by our Filipino filmmakers deserve to be commended for the honor and recognition they have brought to our country. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved by the Senate to congratulate and commend Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza for bagging the Prix de la mise en scene (Best Director award) at the 62nale Fesfival de Cannes (The Cannes Film Festival) held on 13-24 May 2009 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Cannes, France for the movie "Kinafay".
