PROJECT SMART MAKING MATHEMATICS MEANINGFUL TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY Materials List 2020 https://www.projectsmart.net This page intentionally left blank. Project SMART: Making Mathematics Meaningful List of Materials by Units OVER VIEW Materials Not Listed The Project SMART List of Materials does not include the following basic items, since these should be provided for each student by the program: • Student journal (composition book or spiral) • Pencils • Markers In addition, all teachers should have access to the following for use throughout most of the lessons (along with any general teaching supplies): • Chart paper or poster board • Markers • Dry erase board and markers, or interactive white board • Sticky notes Materials Listed This page intentionally left blank. There are six instructional components that require materials within each Project SMART unit: • Math Lessons • STEM Connection • Fun with Fractions • Spiral Review • Family Game • Literature Lessons This materials list does include all items which may need to be purchased for all six of these components. Copies/reproducible handouts and cardstock items, which will need to be made by the program, are not listed. Center-based programs typically teach all six components if offering at least a six-hour day. Programs with shorter days may choose to omit the Literature Lessons, Fun with Fractions, or STEM lesson, since those concepts are not explicitly assessed by the program. Home-based programs teach the Math Lessons; all other components are optional. NOTE: Materials listed for the Family Game component indicate the quantity needed for the teacher to teach the game to the students. In order to meet the program objective for parental engagement, additional materials must be provided to each student for home use, with both Center-based and Home-based programs. Copyright © 2020. Because not all Project SMART teachers are math specialists, video lessons of these segments taught by math content specialists are available for teachers to use. There are two ways the Project SMART teacher may utilize the lesson videos: • Allow the video teacher to deliver the instruction of this segment of the lesson. Actively facilitate student learning as they participate in the video lesson. • Watch the video lesson to ensure knowledge of the content to be taught in the lesson. Video lessons will be available at no cost via streaming through the Project SMART portal; access to the portal will be provided at the Project SMART training for 2019. Video lessons may also be purchased on DVD. This method is recommended if your Center- based program experiences internet connectivity issues, or if you are delivering a Home-based program. Teacher Instructional Videos In addition to the math lesson videos, teachers may also want to watch the Teacher Instructional Videos. These videos were created by the Project SMART math lesson video teacher to review the content addressed in the math lesson at a deeper level and ensure teachers can facilitate the math lesson successfully. These videos also explain how to complete the Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) activity, how to play the Family Game, and how to implement the Spiral Reviews, Fun with Fractions, and STEM lessons. Teacher Instructional Videos will be available for streaming at the Project SMART portal or for purchase as a DVD. Ordering Information Video lesson DVDs and Teacher Instructional Video DVDs will be available for purchase through the ESC 20 website: www.esc20.net. Click the e-Store button and search for Project SMART. An email will be sent to all ESC contacts when the ordering site is live. 4 Copyright © 2020. Texas Education Agency. All Rights Reserved.
