Some counties also have veterans’ advisory councils. Caregivers support less than 1% of veterans Suicide Prevention/Mental Health: There were 67 recorded suicides for veterans in Maryland in 2016. For all age groups, this is lower than the national average for all veterans and the entire population. Employment & Jobs: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor for 2017, the Veteran unemployment rate in Maryland for veterans over 18 and not currently serving is 3.3% which is slightly lower than the national average.
