LANG FAMILY TEXT AND PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS 2020-2021 Thanks to the generosity of Kim N. Lang, BA ’89, the Department of English will welcome three extraordinary theatre artists to our (remotely-taught) classes this coming year. Theatrical performance can bring new and surprising vitality to words on the page, whether the words are written by playwrights, poets, or novelists. Theatrical practice can open new pathways for feeling and thinking about literary and theatrical works and even new ways of understanding works of cinema. Each artist has agreed to lead workshops in two or three courses (one workshop per course). If you think a theatre arts workshop will enliven and deepen a poem, play, novel, or film you are teaching, please submit a brief request for a visit from one of the Lang artists. Please send your requests to Fiona Ritchie and Paul Yachnin by August 21. Tell us which artist (or artists) you wish to invite and then describe the focus of the workshop (or workshops) you have in mind, telling us what you think the theatre workshop will bring to your course and how it might enliven critical appreciation of the literary, cinematic, or other work you and your students are studying. For more information, please email [email protected] The Lang Family Artists for 2020-2021 Fall 2020 Lucinda Davis is a Montreal-based actor, director and producer who has amassed an impressive list of credits for theatre, film, television, animation and video games. Her first performance ever on stage was more than 20 years ago at Moyse Hall in McGill’s English Dept production of The Gut Girls by Sarah Daniels. His TV work includes the miniseries, Trudeau, and series such as The Borgias and House of Cards. His films range from Bon Cop, Bad Cop to the sci-fi thriller Reversion. Among her many roles, she has performed in The Crucible, Brontë: The World Without, Paradise Lost, and The Changeling. She is a recipient of many awards including the Mary Savidge Award that recognizes an actress who has shown outstanding dedication to her craft.
