The Near East Council of Churches Committee for Refugees Work DSPR – Jordan January 2015 Report Introduction: To ensure that the work of DSPR Jordan will reach to all our friends and partners either its relief or ongoing programs, or specific projects. DSPR Jordan has changed the methodology of this report to include not only ACT program, but also its regular program and its new project that DSPR Jordan signed with the New Zealand government through Church World Service in the fields of health education and vocational training. Its is worth mentioning that all theses programs and projects were implemented through professional team starting from area committee, management to voluntary team, and workers in all DSPR locations. Actalliance Activities SYR 151 January 2015 Report Introduction: In spite of not receiving any fund at the beginning of 2015 through ACT to launch the new assistance program to Syrian refugees for 2015 and based on formal early commitment from some partners e.g. Act for Peace and NCA . DSPR Jordan has managed to reallocate some fund from its general budget in order to meet the urgent and demanding needs of the refugees during the harsh winter. DSPR planned its emergency plan in the governorates of Zarqa and Jerash, different activities interviews took place with DSPR voluntary teams in order to collect data and needed information about the most vulnerable Syrian families. Also DSPR has finished building the first children forum hall at Talbiah Camp. Continuous communication with Syrian families : The Syrian Jordanian voluntary teams in Zarqa and Jerash conducted field visits to (400) Syrian families (200) in Zarqa governorate included the areas of Russeifah, Hitteen, Jabal Alameer Faisal, Msheirfah, and Prince Hashem City, and (200) families in Jerash that icluded the areas of Gaza camp, Jerash city, Kitteh, Mastaba,Sakeb, Nahleh, and Rimon. The teams managed to collect all data related to those families and their needs and living conditions. First Relief Campaign (Zarqa Governorate) In light of the available data prepared by the voluntary team, DSPR networked with the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization and Qafilat al Kheir Association and managed to distribute (400) parcels (200) blankets, and (200) dignity kits for (200) families of (1200) individuals. Through this campaign, it was the team work spirit that make this day a real success and reflected the importance of data collection before any filed campaign. Second Relief Campaign (Jerash Governorate) DSPR networked with the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization and managed to distribute (600) parcels (200) food parcels,(200) blankets, and (200) dignity kits for (200) families of (1200) individuals after a field research and needs assessment were made for the camp and the surrounding villages The event took place at DSPR vocational training center at Gaza camp Governorates, and kinds of Parcels distributed during January2015 Governorate Location Date Kinds of Parcels Total Number of Parcels Food Dignity Blankets Zarqa Qafilat AlKhair 22/1/2015 - 200 200 400 Association Jerash DSPR VTC 29/1/2015 200 200 200 600 Establishing and Building Children Forum Hall DSPR has accomplished building the new children forum multi purpose hall at the Vocational Training Center of DSPR in Talbiah Camp. Then DSPR started furnishing and equipping the hall with all what it needs in order to officially open it and start receiving children. This hall is out of three halls DSPR plans to build during 2015. Church of New Zealand Women Empowerment Project through Vocational Training & Health Education Year one January 2015 Introduction: This report covers DSPR achievements in Irbid and Jerash governorates within Health Education and Vocational Training activities that have been implemented at DSPR Vocational Training Center in Gaza and Husn Camps through DSPR health committees, Ministry of Health, Jordan University Hospital, and number of volunteers from local community. Health Education Activities: Osteoporosis Workshop This workshop was implemented due to the need of such workshop for women sector in Husn Camp with the participation of (25) housewives and networking with Women Programs Center. Osteoporosis is considered one of the common health problems facing women in the camp. The workshop included guidance components about the cause of Osteoporosis and the prevention methods. The workshop was implemented through the health committee at Husn Camp. The participants showed their willing to have more workshops and to have similar workshop to include school girls as awareness. Vocational Training Activities: Cosmetology Training Workshop This workshop was implemented in Husn Camp with the participation of (35) housewives who are intending to start small business. The workshop was implemented in cooperation with Vocational Training Institute and the supervision of special committee at Husn Camp. Private and Public sectors participated in this event through: 1- Ministry of Health 2- Jordan University Hospital 3- Medical Private Sector- Gaza Camp 4- DSPR Voluntary Team 5- Gaza Camp Services Committee 6- Local Volunteers The following patients categories participated in the event: Women Children Men Boys Girls 326 255 87 40 60 The following patients categories participated in the event according to the medical specialty: General Optometry Gynecology Medicine Pediatric 150 297 124 197 The following patients categories participated in the event according to nationality: Syrian Refugees Palestinian Refugees Other Nationalities 207 540 21 Prior to the event, DSPR distributed feed back form to (70) patients to stand on the strength and weaknesses points that the event had. The results were: Free Medical Day Feed Back Form Feed Back Aspects Yes No The event was planned 67 3 professionally All doctors and volunteers 68 2 performance was very high Target Groups needed 60 10 these services Location and services 35 25 were convenient Free Medical Days could be better if: - Provide Medical Equipment such as Ultrasound - Determine specific number of patients for each doctor - Provide chronic diseases medicine - Provide more doctors such as dental - More Medical referrals On Going Programs of DSPR Jordan January 2015 Introduction Based on its plan of action for 2015, DSPR Jordan continued its work through its on going programs which focused on the following major sectors: 1- Women Empowerment 2- Youth Development 3- Childhood Development 4- Vocational Training Program 5- Health Education Program Its is worth mentioning that all activities were conducted in DSPR vocational training centers for girls and clinics under the supervision of management and implemented by our voluntary teams in each center.
