A PARLIAMENTARIAN’S YEAR IN REVIEW 2019 8 Championing Immunizations Immunizations are proven to be one of the most impactful and cost effective public health measures. For every dollar invested in vaccines, there is an expected benefit of around USD $16 for national economies. The next year holds incredible opportunities for impact in immunization as the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance will be looking to Canada for financial support. Over the last 20 years both of these organizations have been on the front lines of the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases, ultimately saving the lives of millions of children. Many Parliamentarians have shown their support to these multilateral organizations and the importance of immunizations both at home and abroad. A PARLIAMENTARIAN’S YEAR IN REVIEW 2019 IMPROVING GLOBAL HEALTH 9 Polio Reception on Parliament Hill Rotary International, UNICEF and civil society partners hosted a Polio Parliamentary Reception, which was attended by MPs Hon.
