Session Moderators Michelle Krumm - Head of Production, Development and Studios, South Australian Film Corporation Michelle oversees the SAFC's industry development and production investment programs. She is Head of the Adelaide Studios and negotiates Studio hiring rates and availabilities as well as managing the post sound facilities. This includes the Dolby Premier Mixing Studio, Screening Theatre and the Foley/ADR Studio. Michelle also manages inbound film enquiries including State and Federal incentives and recces. She is a former Miramax and The Weinstein Company executive and recently produced the critically acclaimed film The Spectacular Now. Vicki Sugars – Manager Production, Development and Studios, South Australian Film Corporation Vicki’s role is to deliver the SAFC's development investment and Screen Culture programs. She manages the post sound facilities, Dolby Premier Studio, Screening Theatre and Foley/ADR Studio. Vicki has been a 1st Assistant Director on 10 features and over 120 hours of TV drama, as well as associate or co-producer on feature films and broadcast documentaries. She holds a Masters in Creative Writing from University of Technology Sydney and has written, produced and directed short films that have sold internationally. Speaker bios SAFC Opening Address – State of the State Annabelle Sheehan - Chief Executive Officer, South Australian Film Corporation. Annabelle has longstanding experience as a Chief Executive and Senior Executive in the Australian screen industry. From 2003 to 2013, Ms Sheehan was the CEO and Senior Agent at RGM Artist Group (RGM), a major Australian talent agency representing Australia's leading artists in film, television, theatre and radio. Prior to joining RGM, she was Head of the Film and Television division at Australia’s peak national production education centre – The Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) for six years. Her career began in post-production and her credits inlcude Dead Calm, Mad Max 3, The Piano, Fearless and Portrait of a Lady. Annabelle has written numerous articles about the screen production sector and has presented at conferences in Australia, the USA and China. Gail Kovatseff - Director, Media Resource Centre Gail has been the director of the Media Resource Centre since mid 2007. Prior to this, Gail worked for ten years as a Senior Industry Officer at Arts SA; she was responsible for the contemporary music program and the film organisations. At Arts SA, she also managed several funding programs, primarily in the festival and events area, as well as managing the Festival Awards for Literature. Business and Company Models – Production Kristian Moliere – Co-owner and Producer at Triptych Pictures Pty Ltd: In 2013, Kristian produced the feature film, The Babadook, which had its’ world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The film has won over 40 international awards, including the 2015 AACTA Award for Best Film and the New York Film Critics Circle Best First Feature (2014). Kristian has produced two feature films for director, Kriv Stenders, Boxing Day (2007) and Lucky Country (2009). For television, Kristian is currently producing the 2 x 2 hour mini series, Wake in Fright, for Network Ten with Helen Bowden (Lingo Pictures). Kirsty Stark – Co-Founder and Producer, Epic Films: Kirsty Stark co-founded Epic Films in 2010 and began producing in 2011 with Wastelander Panda. Prior to this, she worked in camera department with some of Australia’s most prominent directors and DPs, giving her a unique background working on set. Kirsty has since produced the series Wastelander Panda: Exile for ABC iview (director Victoria Cocks), along with her first feature film, Madman Production Company’s A Month of Sundays (director Matthew Saville). She is currently developing several projects across film and television. Kate Croser – Head of Production and Development, Kojo Entertainment: Kate Croser is an award-winning producer whose work includes critically acclaimed time travel comedy feature film The Infinite Man (2014 SXSW Film Festival); two seasons of SBS cult comedy television series Danger 5, both of which were nominated for AACTA Best TV Comedy awards; supernatural drama feature film Boys in the Trees which screened in official selection 2016 Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival; documentary film Michelle’s Story (broadcast by ABC) which won the 2015 Adelaide Film Festival Audience Award; and the Australian-Iranian feature film collaboration My Tehran for Sale, which was shot entirely on location in Tehran and was awarded the 2009 IF Independent Spirit Award. Business and Company Models – Post Production and Visual Effects Gail Fuller – Rising Sun Pictures: As Co-Founder of Rising Sun Pictures, Gail turned a love of art & technology into a film and television career that has spanned more than 25 years. She discovered that film-making and visual effects production embodied the collision of multidisciplinary creative endeavours and new technology that had fuelled her initial fascination with architecture. In 1995, at the inception of the digital revolution that would transform filmmaking, embarking on building a visual effects capability in Adelaide was exciting and compelling. As RSP has grown, Gail’s focus has shifted to balancing financial sustainability with creative expression – within a large-scale labour intensive enterprise. Gail has served on the Board of the South Australian Film Corporation, the South Australian Export Council and the Entrepreneur’s Organisation. Dale Roberts – Kojo Entertainment: Dale has been a partner at KOJO since 1995 and has been one of the key drivers of its entertainment interests. With over 20 years experience in film and television Dale is one of Australia’s leading media practitioners. From Hollywood movies, to international television series and national advertising campaigns Dale has built a reputation as a leader in his field. His creative approach to business fuels the strategic direction of the company as it continually evolves to meet the needs of brands here and abroad. Dale is an award winning editor and has held numerous senior management positions through KOJO over the past 16 years. He was appointed Managing Director in June 2011 and became CEO in January 2013. Speaker bios ART DEPARTMENT Obie O’Brien – Production Designer Obie O'Brien is a South Australian based Production Designer. Obie has worked in art director and designer roles, on the TV series such as Prank Patrol Road Trip and Danger 5, and features including Wolf Creek 2, The Infinite Man, and Sam Klemke’s Time Machine. Obie is natural creative, an amiable and able collaborator with a wealth of experience covering a wide range of industrial, artistic and design practices. Matt Landreth – Construction Manager Matt has worked in Film and TV Art Departments for over 15 years, in a range of roles including Construction Manager, Carpenter, Electrician and Staging. Matt’s career began in the early 2000’s when he worked on television projects including Rain Shadow and Danger 5, and also as Carpenter and Trades Assistant on feature films Rabbit-Proof Fence, Looks Both Ways and December Boys. He has since been Construction Manager for projects including Girl Asleep and Beautiful Kate. Sarah Abbey – Locations Manager Sarah has worked in various roles including Props Buyer, Set Decorator and Stylist
