Brian Jenkins MP House of Commons London SW1A 0AA 27 October 2009 Dear Mr Jenkins I am writing to you in response to your recent Parliamentary Question (2008/5258). The table below shows the Train to Gain income earned by Colleges in the West Midlands in the academic year 2008/9, and the Maximum Contract Value (MCV) awarded to those colleges for academic year 2009/10. It should be noted that 2008/9 earnings will not be finalised until mid-November, and could increase or decrease. Similarly, a College’s income from Train to Gain in 2009/10 could be less than the current MCV, or, if funding allows, the MCV could increase. Skills for Life is the collective term used to describe the qualifications and awards that colleges and other providers deliver to improve learners literacy, language (ESOL) and numeracy skills. We are therefore unable to provide a breakdown of the funding allocated solely for Skills for Life programmes, because the Learning and Skills Council’s financial systems record Learning and Skills Council National Office Cheylesmore House Quinton Road Coventry CV1 2WT T 0845 019 4170 F 024 7682 3675 ww.lsc.gov.uk payments at programme level only. Skills for Life provision forms part of a number of programme lines e.g. Adult Responsive and Employer Responsive and the payment systems do not give specific curriculum and qualification level detail. Yours sincerely Geoff Russell Chief Executive Learning and Skills Council National Office Cheylesmore House Quinton Road Coventry CV1 2WT T 0845 019 4170 F 024 7682 3675 ww.lsc.gov.uk.
