InfoGibraltar Servicio de Información de Gibraltar comunicado Gobierno de Gibraltar: Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Sostenibilidad, Cambio Climático, Patrimonio, Educación y Cultura Conferencia Calpe 2021: Neandertales ibéricos Gibraltar, 6 de septiembre de 2021 La 25ª edición de la Conferencia de Calpe, organizada por el Museo Nacional de Gibraltar, se celebrará entre el jueves 23 y el sábado 25 de septiembre en la Universidad de Gibraltar. El tema son los Neandertales ibéricos y la conferencia reúne a destacados científicos de toda la Península Ibérica en un encuentro en el que se informará acerca de las últimas investigaciones sobre la cuestión. La conferencia coincide con el 95º aniversario del descubrimiento del cráneo de un niño Neandertal en el refugio rocoso de Devil’s Tower, conocido popularmente en la actualidad como Flint. La conferencia también conmemorará el trabajo de toda una vida del difunto profesor Ofer Bar-Yosef, un afamado arqueólogo que dedicó gran parte de su investigación al estudio de los Neandertales. El profesor Bar-Yosef fue ponente invitado en la primera Conferencia Calpe sobre los Neandertales, celebrada en 1998, y había regresado a Calpe en ediciones posteriores. La conferencia está abierta para todas aquellas personas que deseen asistir, previa inscripción. Se respetará estrictamente la normativa vigente en materia de Covid-19 en todo momento. Para acceder al recinto es necesario inscribirse y, como en años anteriores, la inscripción será gratuita para los residentes locales que deseen asistir. Los no residentes deberán pagar una cuota de inscripción. Habrá un cupo de delegados en el recinto y las inscripciones se harán por orden de llegada. The subject is Iberian Neanderthals and the conference brings together leading scientists from across the Iberian Peninsula to a meeting that will report on the latest research on the subject. The conference coincides with the 95th anniversary of the discovery of the Neanderthal child’s skull from Devil’s Tower Rock Shelter, popularly known today as Flint. The conference will also commemorate the life’s work of the late Professor Ofer Bar-Yosef who was a renowned archaeologist who had dedicated a major part of his research to the study of the Neanderthals. Professor Bar-Yosef was a guest speaker at the first Calpe Conference on Neanderthals, in 1998, and had returned to Calpe subsequently. The conference is open to those who wish to attend, by prior registration. There will be strict adherence to current COVID rules throughout. To gain access to the venue, registration is required, and as in previous years, registration will be free for local residents wishing to attend. A registration fee is payable by non-residents. There will be a quota of delegates permitted within the premises and registrations will be treated on a “first-come” basis.
