In cases when a petition was written by one individual on behalf of another, the names of both individuals are included. The petitions in this volume are from officers and men in British, German and provincial regiments, from loyalists, and from Canadians to Governors Haldimand and Carleton. The bulk of the petitions from military figures relate to promotion, leave and purchase or sale of commissions. Many of the petitions from loyalists ask for relief or for appointments in the army.
