String Trio The French String Trio was founded in 1959, and has become one of Europe's most renowned performers of chamber music. Gerard Jarry on violin, Serge Collot on viola, and MichelTournus on cello were originally drawn together by:their common fondness of Mozart"s Divertiinento K. 563, which they performthis afternoon. These great artists are equally at home with works byromantlc and modern composers, and their repertory includes pieces written as recently as 1971. Each member of the ensemble is a virtuoso in his own right. GERARD JARRY, one of France's best known violinists, is often a guest performer with other ensembles and chamber Orchestras throughout Europe. In 1951 he won the grand prize at the Long Thibuad Competition. SERGE COllOT began his formal training at the Paris Conser vatory where he is now professor of viola, and also professor of cham ber music at the Academie Internationale d'Ete in Nice. One of the original members of the Parrenin Quartet at its inception in 1942, Mr. Collet was also a moving force in the founding of "Les Concerts Du Domain Musical", consisting of a small group of musicians cen tering around Pierre Boulez. MICHEL TOURNUS, cellist with the French String Trio, has studied the cello and piano since age five. In 1949 he won first prize at the Paris Conservatory where he studied with Pierre Fournier. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout Europe. Recently in Mexico, the French String Trio gave their 500th con cert. They have performed in many countries throughout the world, and their recordings include works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Bee thoven, and Schubert. Friends of Chamber Music presented this superb group in Stock ton nearly two years ago, in Febuary 1973. In response to numerous requests, and with great pleasure, we again present the French String Trio on our series. 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111.
