The Kerry Blue Terrier Club of Texas Nick Fletcher Blueprints Fall/Winter 2013-2014 Here we are, November 2013 and we are about to close out another year. 2013 marked another fabulous National Specialty weekend. We became reacquainted with old (older by a year) friends and made new friends. As always we had people from all around the globe – Australia, Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland and at least 28 states that I could remember. We had 100 Kerries for the National Specialty which does not rival the 150-160 we had in the 70’s and 80’s but still the third highest breed count at Montgomery in 2013. We had to overcome a lot this year. Hurricane Sandy just after Montgomery 2012 uprooted people’s lives and caused extensive damage to the east coast - specifically the New Jersey coastline and Staten island. The tornadoes in Oklahoma devastated complete towns. Fires in California and Arizona as well as floods in Colorado created additional hardship. But through it all, we still come to Montgomery weekend. Why you ask? Kerry Blue Terriers. That is what brings us together. We rallied around the people who needed our help and we gave what we could. When we come out to Montgomery to watch our Kerries in confor- mation or other disciplines, we can temporarily forget all that took place during the past year. We look at movement and coat and become lost in the moment. We take back home with us fond memories of what we have seen at Montgomery. My post Montgomery message would not be complete without a couple of shout outs (do they still say that or should I just say acknowledgements?) to our Futurity and Sweeps judges. I want to thank Gary Alu for an excellent job in the Sweeps ring. My next thank you goes to Gene Possidento, Barbara Price and Steve Schellenberg for a wonderful job judging the Futurity/Maturity. It is a great informal setting where we can all have a great time. The Futurity is near and dear to my heart. I enjoy each and every competition. Gigi Reiling did her normal stellar job coordinating the event. Susan Dunivant: What can I say about our resident artist that hasn’t already been put on paper. She created one of the best pictures of a Kerry that everyone fell in love with and wanted to own. On a personal note, my wife fell in love with it and had to have it. Hence, Kathy always increased her bid at the auction. She won the auction and it will adorn a wall in my house where everyone who enters will be sure to see it. Susan, I want to thank you for putting so much of yourself and our beloved Kerries into a picture. Thank you to George Moad and Louise Lang for being responsible for the refreshments as well as our score keepers who only had to break out the calculator once or twice. Finally, thank you to everyone who helped to coordinate an event during 2013. Without everyone’s help and participation these events with would not be the success they are. Each and every one of you brought a little bit more attention to our club and Kerry Blue’s. Let’s do what we can for each person and Kerry in need over the next year. This will bring a little more happiness into someone’s life. I am hoping for a great year for everyone in 2014. Be well and stay safe.
