Founded in 1907, Cherokee is Knoxville’s oldest and most prestigious golf course and country club. The course was originally designed by Donald Ross, in his time considered to be one of America’s outstanding golf course architects. The spacious clubhouse stands above the scenic Tennessee River, with a breathtaking view of the Great Smoky Mountains. Cherokee states that its goal is to offer golf at its finest and truly be an “exceptional golf experience” for all levels of players. From 2004-07 and 2013-2018, Cherokee Country Club has hosted the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championship. Cherokee has also hosted the U.S. Open Qualifier, the UT Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament and numerous other state amateur events. Yardage: 5,897 or 5,840 Par: 71 From 2010-2012, Holston Hills was home to the Mercedes-Benz Championship. Located just east of Knoxville, the course was built in 1927 and began hosting important regional tournaments, including a PGA Tour Event. The challenging layout features more than one hundred bunkers scattered across the 150-acre property. There are little to no homes or other visual distractions taking away from the links-like feel. The course is situated on an old farm tucked into a bend in the Holston River. The course is arrayed in a broad, fan-shaped formation, with both nines returning to the clubhouse that sits on an up-slope along the north side of the property. Yardage: 6,398 Par: 72 From 2003 and 2008-2009, Fox Den Country Club held the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championship. Featuring an 18-hole championship golf course, the club provided a challenge to premier golfers and teams from across the nation. Situated in nearby Farragut, Tenn., Fox Den opened in the summer of 1968, and is the result of one golfer’s (Chester A. Massey) enthusiasm for the game and his desire to build one of America’s finest golf courses. As the host of the Knoxville Open, a Nationwide Tour event, it boasts a course that requires finesse as well as long-ball power. Yardage: 6,575 Par: 72 From 1997-2002, the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championships were held at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf and Country Club, located in West Knoxville, Tenn. Gettysvue is an exclusive course located on 300 rolling acres in the heart of Knoxville. The club features beautiful views of the Great Smoky and Cumberland Mountains. It is a challenging course that requires precise shot placement and careful course management. It demands players make shots onto multi-tiered greens and from various lies. Yardage: 6,540 Par: 72 6 CHEROKEE COUNTRY CLUB Cherokee Country Club Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., is nestled on a bend in the Tennessee River with sweeping views of the Smoky Mountains.
